Surgical procedures and plasma exchange for ovarian teratoma-associated anti-N-methyl D-aspartate receptor encephalitis: a case report and review of literature
We reported a case of ovarian teratoma-associated Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis with recurrent epileptic seizures and disturbance of consciousness. Although surgical excision of the tumor remains the established standard of care, unlike other reported cases, the patient exhibited limited response to early oophorocystectomy, as well as IVIG and steroid therapy; however, a favorable response was observed with Plasma exchange (PE) initiated on postoperative day 12. Literature review revealed no definite recommended surgical extent for ovarian teratomas, and outstanding improvement in patients wi...

Diagnosis and management of mediastinal extragonadal germ cell tumors
SummaryExtragonadal germ cell tumors (EGCT) are rare and comprise only 2 –3% of all testicular germ cell tumors. The majority of EGCT are located in the mediastinum, followed by the retroperitoneum. Although histologically similar to germ cell tumors (GCT), EGCT have distinct histological patterns which result in a biologically aggressive variant of GCT with the need for interdisciplinary care in highly specialized centers. The majority of mediastinal EGCT harbor teratoma or yolk sac tumor elements. Treatment usually consists of a combination of systemic cytotoxic therapy and aggressive postchemotherapeutic surgery. Fi...

Primary Right Adrenal Teratoma in a Postmenopausal Female: a Case Report and Review of Literature
We report a rare case of a primary right adrenal teratoma in a postmenopausal female, presenting with abdominal pain. Ultrasound revealed a complex cystic shadow in the perihepatic region superior to the upper pole of the right kidney, which was suggestive of a complex supra-renal space-sequence-occupying lesion. Computerized tomography revealed a large-sized mature single multilobulated complex cystic lesion in the right hypochondrial lumbar region arising from the right adrenal gland. A right-sided transperitoneal adrenalectomy was performed. The resected mass (18 × 13 × 10 cm) was well encapsulated. Cut surfaces showe...

Significance of Ultra-Radical Surgery in Extensive Metastatic Ovarian Growing Teratoma Syndrome
CONCLUSION: The survival outcomes in extensive metastatic ovarian GTS were satisfactory after ultra-radical surgery, while a proper therapeutic plan should be established due to the high perioperative risks.PMID:38096801 | DOI:10.1159/000533411 (Source: Oncology)

Mature teratoma of liver in an adult male patient
We present a case of a 27-year-old male with a history of abdominal pain of 5 months duration. CT scan revealed liver mass suggesting teratoma. The patient underwent cholecystectomy and segmental liver resection. Histopathology revealed mature cystic teratoma. Complete resection remains the best treatment option. Teratomas of the liver are extremely rare, constituting < 1% of all teratomas. An extensive review of the literature yielded < 50 cases of primary hepatic teratomas with only a dozen cases in adults and only two cases in males.PMID:38084546 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_430_21 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)
