Ischemia-Modified Albumin-A Potential New Marker of Oxidative Stress in Dermatological Diseases
Medicina (Kaunas). 2022 May 17;58(5):669. doi: 10.3390/medicina58050669.ABSTRACTThere is growing evidence that oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of numerous conditions, including dermatological diseases. Various markers are available to assess oxidative stress, but none of these can be considered the ideal marker. Recent studies have shown that ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is not only an indicator of ischemia, but also a marker of oxidative stress. We have conducted a narrative review to evaluate the role of IMA in dermatological diseases. We have identified 24 original articles that evaluated IMA in skin...

Social isolation: main dermatosis and the impact of stress during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSION: During the pandemic period, the pattern of incidence of dermatoses had changed compared with the previous year. An emphasis was observed on diseases triggered by a psychological component, as well as those pathologies that have behavioral measures as the main cause. For this reason, the impacts of COVID-19 is greater than only among those infected.PMID:35352765 | DOI:10.31744/einstein_journal/2022AO6320 (Source: Herpes)

Relationship between hair shedding and systemic inflammation in COVID-19 pneumonia
Conclusion: This exploratory study raises the hypothesis that hair shedding is more strictly related to the severity of COVID-19 disease and the underlying inflammation rather than to patients' hormonal status. KEY MESSAGESThe presence of Telogen effluvium (TE) was significantly more common in women.Higher severity of the Covid-19 disease seems to play a critical role, more important than the hormonal influence, in the development of TE.The severity of inflammation related to TE and Covid-19 could also play a role as suggested by the higher levels of CRP and platelets and IL1β.PMID:35341398 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2022.205...

Alopecia syphilitica, from diagnosis to treatment
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2022 Jan 26;35(2):180-183. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2021.2021761. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTAlopecia syphilitica (AS) is an uncommon manifestation of secondary syphilis, with a prevalence that ranges from 3% to 7%. It is a nonscarring alopecia that can present in a diffuse pattern, a moth-eaten pattern, or a mixed subtype. Due to its low prevalence and similar presentation to other forms of alopecia such as alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, and tinea capitis, dermatologists must maintain a high degree of suspicion for prompt diagnosis. The diagnosis of AS is made by eliciting the patient's history,...
