Family experiences of antenatal counselling of spina bifida: a systematic review
Conclusions Unlike other conditions where limited data on outcome exist or the spectrum is genuinely broad, the outcomes of children with spina bifida is well described. Poor aspects of antenatal counselling were described frequently by families, and further work is needed to capture the full spectrum of views on antenatal counselling, how it can be improved, and what training and resources healthcare professionals need to perform it better. Cecostomy tubes improve bowel continence for pediatric patients with spina bifida: A retrospective analysis of outcomes from a single clinic
CONCLUSION: Results indicate cecostomy tubes are effective for improving bowel continence in this pediatric population. Future research is needed to conduct risk analyses and determine the clinical significance of these effects.PMID:38073339 | DOI:10.3233/PRM-220123 (Source: Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine)

Survival and causes of death in adults with spina bifida in Sweden: a population-based case-control study
CONCLUSION: Adults with spina bifida in Sweden have a lower survival rate compared with the general population, with the frequency of certain causes of death differing between the two groups. In order to reduce excess premature mortality, prevention and careful management of potentially fatal conditions are essential throughout a patient's lifespan.PMID:38010218 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v55.18244 (Source: Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine)
