Ethical guidelines on private practice after-hours coverage
Hi all, I am in the process of starting up a solo private practice and was wondering psychologists are required to provide after-hours coverage and/or be on-call 24/7 in the private practice setting. I am trying to figure out whether I need to pay for an after-hours answering service, or if I can just say in my voicemail message what my hours are (they will be normal business hours, maybe a couple of evenings) and if patients receive this message after hours and are having a clinical... What to do with extra space?
It finally happened, the shop next door is closing up and I have dibs on getting an additional 1500 square feet for the office. Now, my question to you guys would be, would you take an additional 1500 square feet for your office given my circumstances? I currently have 13 rooms as a solo GP and my main hesistation is whether I would be able to do 20 rooms solo (assume I can put 7 more rooms in 1500 sq feet, I can cram more, but I assume I need additional storage/bathroom). I've thought of... What to do with extra space? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thinking about hiring Mohs surgeon
It’s funny because there’s a thread right now about how hard it is to get hired...but I’m considering hiring a Mohs surgeon. I trained almost two decades ago and have been solo referral only all this time. I need a little advice on how current fellows are getting reimbursed in their first gig, etc. Practice structures and starting salaries, etc. I’d appreciate any input you guys could give. Type of retina practices
I figured there are couple of different retina practice opportunities 1-acedemia, 2- solo retina, 3- large group retina 4- health care base/hospital based, 5- retina in a multi-specialty ophtho practice, 6- retina trained comprehensive , any more? which are the most sought after and why? I was hoping people can shed light to what the pros and cons of each set ups are? for instance academia may give you a lot of flexibility in regards to research, allow you participate in residency training... Crafting a contract
I've lurked in this forum for a while and I appreciate all the good advice. I'm looking at joining a solo-practice. He has a good payer mix, reputation, etc. He's never hired another doc before and I'm a relatively new grad, so neither of us has an idea of what a reasonable contract looks like. He's reluctant to pony much of a base salary. I was thinking of a staggered percent of collections, once I have paid up my base. (made up numbers below) after reaching base salary, I get 40%... Questions regarding mid-level providers
Hello everyone, I am hoping to tap into the collective to gain some information regarding working with mid-level providers. I am currently a solo practitioner with a relatively successful outpatient clinic that I have been building over the last 3 years. At this point it I find myself starting the contemplation stage of working with (contract) or hiring (salary) a mid-level provider (PA/APN) however I realize that I am completely in the dark with all of this. I know that my first step is... Questions regarding mid-level providers (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Coding Question 99205
I've read some coding threads, however, still have questions on coding a 99205 for a new outpatient visit. I recently started a solo practice, and have never had to code for myself and then rely on myself with definitive certainty that I am coding correctly. I easily spend over 60+ minutes with the patient, whether it be through review of documentation or just the initial eval-often with multiple complaints with sleep/anxiety/etc. I have heard from different sources I can code this way if I... Sticker Price: Starting Solo Practice vs Buying Someone Out
PGY-1 here. I’ve searched high and low only to find that there’s very little info regarding DPMs starting a practice right out of residency. I’m very interested in this route. Please assume that I have the cash/credit needed to fully make this happen. What else is needed? How much total costs am I looking at the start my own practice? Please don’t respond “well that’s hard to answer”, as I can use deductive reasoning to figure that out. Basically I’m open to hypotheticals and anecdotes. Also... How much revenue do we generate?
How much $$$ can a group realistically expect to collect from a provider in a 3:1 ACT model working 50ish/wk with 8-10 wks vacation in a for profit hospital with a good payer mix vs a nonprofit with a poor payer mix? What about if this were a solo practice in a for profit vs nonprofit? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2 in 3 Dentists Under Age 35 Now Work For A Dental Corporation.
Just came across these (not so surprising) numbers recently. DSOs/Corporate Dentistry is moving at a lightning speed while fewer and fewer dentists are owning their own solo practice every year. The ADA acknowledged this, dental schools acknowledge it, almost all dentists unanimously acknowledge it today. There are many factors that have caused this to happen, but by far, the biggest culprit is the cost of dental education - which caused new graduates to have on average a monthly post-tax... 2 in 3 Dentists Under Age 35 Now Work For A Dental Corporation. Starting a solo cash-only private practice after internship year
So, there are 33 states in the US that will give me a license to practice medicine after just 1 year of GME. This is incredibly liberating to me; it takes off so much of the pressure of matching into dermatology. I have checked off all the little cookie-cutter boxes they want from me: high step 1 score, research, Honors, etc. I will give this cycle my very best effort. But, if I fail to match derm, I will not lose a SINGLE wink of sleep over it. I will just complete my preliminary medicine /... Negotiating new contract with boss
Hello I need some advice as I am at a crossing point in my career. I am currently a PMR pain and I joined an Anesthesia Pain private practice solo practicioner last year. He is getting older so he wants to meet with me and discuss a 2-3 year plan. Right now I have a straight base salary. We are EXTREMELY busy though we do about 20-30 procedures half day in his ASC as well as on clinic days we see about 30+ patients a day (which for me is draining and a lot). The thing I don't like is I... Negotiating new contract with boss (Source: Student Doctor Network)
