Solo Practice with Wound Care Focus
Has anyone had any success/know of anyone successful in starting a solo private practice that focuses almost exclusively on limb salvage and wound care? I don't mean as part of a hospital or wound care center. I know it's probably very tough to pull off on your own given the nature of the work, but the need is certainly there and wound care seems to be the one area that other DPMs don't mind referring out to other pods. Feel free to call me crazy... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does anyone round Nursing Homes/ALFs/SNFS/ etc?
I have been in solo private practice for about a year now while my patient load has filled up. I am about to disperse about 40% of my patients to my first employee to take over so It's going to give me some more time to do other things. I was thinking of getting out of the office a few days and seeing if I can get some contracts with nursing homes. Is it the same codes? 99205/90792, 99214+90833 or does nursing home rounding carry an additional code? I am not in network with Medicare... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Podiatry Bipolar
In many ways podiatry has come a long, long ways. Residency training for all, with a much higher percentage getting good or great training. As much as we justifiably knock the job market, there are mid size cities, often in fly over states where the majority of podiatrists are employed by ortho groups or hospital systems. If there is private practice it is usually not solo and a group with no mustache podiatrists. Sure they push Tolcylen, lotions, orthotics and laser toenail treatments to... Private Practice opportunity in south-central PA
My private anesthesiology group has an opening coming up for a full time anesthesiologist in south-central Pennsylvania. Our practice consists of 5 docs and staff one community hospital and one surgery center. Cases are bread and butter. Overnight call is 1:5 from home. We primarily medically direct hospital employed CRNAs (mostly 1:2 or 1:3) but occasionally provide solo care. This is a great lifestyle position. We offer 10 weeks PTO/year and immediate financial partnership (no buy-in)... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Retina: Solo Practice vs Group Practice
Looking for some additional guidance as July feels to be approaching faster than ever. Over the past few years, I've been very inspired by the two solo practice startup blogs, and I've gone back and forth debating the merits of each practice type (solo vs group). I was wondering if people on here could speak to some of the advantages and disadvantages of each, particularly with respect to retina and where it differs from comp or other subspecialities. First, my wife and I are from a rural... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

New Grad Being Solo
Hello! What are some concerns you have for a new graduate being a solo practitioner as an associate? If you were in that position what helped you to succeed? What happens if you can't finish a procedure, who bails you out? What are some challenges you likely to face? Is it possible for someone to know their limits and not proceed with the procedure in the first place to be able to work as a solo practitioner? Another words, by being as much careful as possible and not taking extensive... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The future of podiatry

As a solo practitioner who do you order your supplies from?
Was just looking for some tips on who to get in contact with about some affordable and reliable supply ordering options. Do those of you with your own practices just go with McKesson or is there a better option in terms of a company willing to deal with a smalltime account? Any tips appreciated even if it's just a company name I can do the rest of course. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Starting a practice vs buying one
So I've come across a couple of good opportunities...at least I think they are good. I'll try to shed some light on both on here: The first is a well established practice. Its a big but not popular city. It has a pretty substantial population. There's maybe 6 or so podiatrists . Current owner is an older physician. Looking for an out in the next year. Solo practice, modern, but shows signs of the times (eg lack of web presence, EMR, etc). But its established so it's pretty busy. For a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

So many types of GI jobs these days...
I wanted to put this out there into the interwebs, feel free to comment. I recently started looking for jobs in the NE (5+ years out from fellowship). Things have changed a bit from when I last looked. Far less solo practitioners, maybe they all got bought out, or closed due to covid. Many multi specialty groups; pcp/cards/gi that make their own physical network and keep expanding by buying more practices. Interesting model, the guys at the top that started it usually get the most profit... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Running a solo subspecialty practice
Anyone have pointers for a “definitive guide” to running a solo outpatient practice (not procedural, it’s not onc/pulm/gi/cards)? My spouse is very interested in leaving her employed job and striking out for freedom by either taking over a retiring doc’s practice or starting her own…we don’t know where to start thinking about the day to day operations of this stuff (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Evaluating An Anesthesia Practice Checklist
This checklist is old but still relevant. I am posting since residents don't get much guidance in what to look for in an anesthesia practice.
