Experience with Headway
Hello all. I'm a PGY-4 graduating this month and preparing to start my solo practice. I plan to start out as an insurance practice and see where things go. Earlier in the year I learned about an organization called Headway, which says they will credential me with around 6 payors and gave me a fee schedule by CPT code for said payors. They help with marketing a little bit (SEO, online booking platform, etc.), and pay me as a 1099 twice monthly. They handle the billing and insurance stuff... Building a successful solo practice
Hi guys What’s everyone’s take on how to successful build a profitable practice? How are you all talking to patients about cash prices for services like orthotics or non covered RFC? How do you find patients take the news that yes, there is a out of pocket cost? What else can be done in the office to build a good stream of revenue besides volume justifying office visits? The previous threads have stated that surgeries aren’t paying well. What about in office surgery? I realize we... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Solo practice
Hey guys Seeking options and opinions here from seasoned docs such as yourselves. What’s the future like for SOLO podiatry practice? If you’ve followed some of my other threads you’ll see that I was in talks to maybe buy a practice. Also considering starting it fresh from scratch. It seems like dentists do very well solo and sometimes I see our filed kinda mirroring there’s and sometimes not . So what are your thoughts ? 1. Solo from scratch 2. Buy existing office 3. Associate... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PP offer - please advise
I am currently a hospital employee, a few years out BC. I work in a small town (no prior connections here, no family, etc). The practice is good with new machines, good support staff, good morale among department, I do a lot of SBRT/SRS/IMRT. I am paid well at MGMA median. I recently met with a solo rad onc owner in a top large metro where I have friends and family. He operates two practices, bills globally and pays rent to the hospital. He offered me a contract to work for him as an... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EMR advice
I’m in the process of choosing an EMR for my new solo pain practice. I’ll be doing procedures and ketamine infusions in office as well as implants at an ASC. I’m currently deciding between Dr Chrono (may use their billing services), Kareo (discount with local billing company I may use), and eClinicalWorks (expensive). Any insight is appreciated. What specialties can you still create your own practice?
I know everything is being consumed by large groups and healthcare conglomerates, but are there any fields left that are especially friendly to solo practice? I like to build things myself and although it may not be the most profitable, I believe I would thoroughly enjoy cultivating my own practice and making critical decisions myself. PM News Annual Survey Net Income
Has anyone seen the recent PM News Annual survey's median net income number for solo practitioners? It's a $106,000. I don't know anyone in solo practice that is making that little unless they opened up less than year ago. Where do they get this number from? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do academic hospitals allow you to have your own private practice on the side?
I am considering looking for an inpatient / CL psychiatry job in an academic center after graduation (around 0.7 FTE). I would also like to slowly start building a solo private practice on the side even if it is for 2-3 half days a week. I am under no illusion that I will fill all days sufficiently to have a good income, but I feel the hospital salary would hopefully allow me to subsidize the private practice during the early phase. But, I am wondering how common is it nowadays for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What EMR to use in solo private practice?
Scraping my fellowship plans and deciding to jump into the real world after graduation. I’m hoping to set up a cash practice while moonlighting on the side. Going to give it a year and then switch to insurance if cash won’t cut it. wondering what EMRs people have had good experience with? Luminello and Charm are the two I’ve heard of the most but wondering if there are any others I should consider? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Practice with support from local hospital
Currently doing an orthopedic fellowship and plan to go start a solo private practice (not hospital employee) after I am done with training. A community hospital is willing to financially support my practice and give me an income guarantee my first year to help me get going, as long as I stay in the community for 4 years. Has anyone gone through with this and willing to share their experience? What are things I should know before signing the contract? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OB/GYN Lifestyle Questions
Hi everyone! I"m an M1 interested in OB/GYN and I wanted to get a better understanding of what I could expect. I apologize if my questions are naive! I'm still exploring specialties and am just curious about some aspects of OB/GYN. I'd like to operate a solo practice one day, but I know there are some hurdles to this. My understanding is that I'll mostly be limited to GYN because of how hard securing malpractice coverage for obstetrics is. Would it be a feasible plan to operate a GYN solo... Solo practice questions
Hi all, I just had a few questions as I think more about my future in pain. I've been thinking more and more about hustling on my own to start a PP rather than joining a large group or hospital. I did have a few questions. -Would you ever recommend working for a few years prior to trying to start on your own? -Do any small solo practices also start out with employing a physical therapist/occupational therapist under the same roof to both benefit from collections as well as know that... Deciding on 3 options re:wisest path toward opening Solo Pain practice
Hey folks, This is a question for those of you who are either currently Solo Pain docs , have worked as solo in the past, or have a solid handle/experience on the business aspect of Pain management. I’ve worked in academic Pain practice and will leave that job soon. I did some locum in the past. I bill for my own visits and procedures, not much else in terms of managing/financial stuff at that job. I want to go solo in the next 1-2 years, but I don’t have much experience with the business... Joining Small Solo Practice
I am a fellow on the job search now and one intriguing offer was joining a doc in solo practice whereby I would essentially create my patient base from scratch. He would simply offer me a percent of collections (TBD) and handle all the overhead. He admitted that marketing was never his strong suit or interest and most new patients are from finding him on an insurance list. I am looking for how to manage expectations and identify any pitfalls. I like the idea of being somewhat in control of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
