No Surprises Act
January 1st this goes live. I'm trying to wrap my head around how much damage this is going to be and if able to do it in my small solo insurance based practice. Or will this be the death knell that pushes me into cash only? I haven't yet sat down to read and mentally process this yet. Has any one else reviewed this yet and what it means? I originally thought this pertained only to Out Of Network, but now I think this applies to all, including in network? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Creation of paid externship
I have felt some movement towards equitable labor practices in the US (long way to go yet) and was reflecting on what it felt like to provide free services for years during training. I have been privileged enough to establish a solo private practice and have had some contact with training directors as I embark on creating an externship. I’ve received the message that “training cannot occur at a place of employment” when attempting to offer pay. Would anyone be willing to donate their time... Cutting ties from a group practice?
Hello everyone. I was wondering if those who have made a transition from a group practice to their own solo practice might be able to help me with this transition. I will spare you the details about why I am leaving. Current situation: I started working with a group practice about 2 months ago as a 1099. I am still "undergoing credentialing" with medicare and several other insurance companies. The group practice has kept me out of the loop regarding the credentialing process, however I... Starting solo or group practice, worth it?
First few years after residency in IM, working full time as a nocturnist, decent pay $260k+, should I be thinking about going on my own, starting a clinic or practice..worth it long term in maximizing the $$ income potential? Are there any resources that help provide perspective with details on the business side of things? Pretty sure others here more experienced would have some experience, of their own or observations/opinions on the income potential of solo practice (or maybe a few docs... Academic Institutions where attendings do their own cases?
Anyone know of any academic institutions where attendings do solo cases? My selfish dream is to continue to do a wide range of interesting and complex cases with a group of experienced partners that I can learn from, all while still being able to sit the stool and do my own cases. I am concerned that in a private practice setting I would potentially get bored of doing the same repetitive ASA 1-3 cases. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

changing from mostly non-opioid practice to strictly non-opioid
I am in solo practice currently. Our front door policy is "no opioids" to keep out the majority of drug seekers. Of course some do get in to see me. I do not want to prescribe opioids, but I do for some patients, for various reasons. Majority I would say are inherited, taking over the Rx because I felt they had no other great option. I find it is a slippery slope of course, trying to treat patients with compassion. For various reasons I am planning to make a transition to a strictly... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

In need of an EMR for a small solo practice, need recommendations please!
I've read through the forum and it seems nobody is happy with their EMR. It seems that perhaps Athena and DrChrono are tolerable but not liked. All others seem to be hated. I'm hoping SOMEBODY on here has an EMR that they like. This is a big time investment for my practice and we want to make a wise decision. Any advice very much appreciated. New Jersey Job Offers, which is best!!?!?
I am a current fellow and searching for jobs in the New Jersey area. please give informative, expert opinions on which offers sound best, greatly appreciated! * may I also add that a fellowship hardly seems worth it, as no ortho jobs want a podiatrist and no offers are above the “normally” offered pay scale OPTION 1) Small solo practice, doctor is about late 50s, been working solo for most of his career. Buying a solo ophthalmology practice.
Hello everyone. I'm a practicing ophthalmologist that has been with my current group for the last 8 years. Been a partner for the last 6. I am quite unhappy with the direction the practice is going and have been trying to leave for the last few years. I am tied to the area so so I've been patiently waiting for another opportunity to open up. I was contacted by an ophthalmologist in a nearby city that wants to retire ASAP and is selling his practice. I have visited the practice... Buying a solo ophthalmology practice. Sleep Medicine as a Primary Specialty?
Hello everybody! So, I am a third-year Neurology Resident currently. We get a good amount if exposure to Sleep Medicine, however basically only as an "add-on" to a Neurology practice. Sleep really interests me, but whenever I mention that I may want to pursue it as a primary specialty, my attendings shoot it down saying it's not viable as a solo practice due to decreasing reimbursement for sleep studies, etc. In truth, both the specialty itself as well as the lifestyle I see really appeals... Private Practice start up questions (legal, EMR, Billing)
I have been an employee as a board-certified Child/Adol and general psychiatrist for 20 years at my current job and will need to start a practice (in a year if things at current job don't change by then) or will stay and retire in 8 years and start a practice then. I am the only C/A in the area and the 3 private general psychiatrists are all retiring soon. There are no psyc ARNP's in area. I'd be in solo practice with 1-2 receptionists, renting space and setting all details up on my own... Private Practice start up questions (legal, EMR, Billing) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Starting solo practice in NJ - chances of success
I’ve heard all the doom and gloom, I’ve been thru 7 years of employment in various settings (Hospitalist; UC, and traditional FP). I’m sick and tired of being employed and being a cog in a wheel for a hospital or health system. I’ve saved prudently, and I would like to open a solo family practice in central NJ. All I hear is to do cash only, or concierge. I want to do a traditional practice, outpatient only, and take all major insurers. What are my chances for success? What should I...
