Development, optimization and validation of LC-MS/MS method for the determination of DBS GALT enzyme activity
Anal Biochem. 2023 Aug 10;678:115284. doi: 10.1016/j.ab.2023.115284. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGalactosemia is a carbohydrate metabolism disorder often caused by galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase (GALT) deficiency. Detecting GALT deficiency involves measuring intra-erythrocyte enzyme activity. We aimed to create a robust liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method to assess GALT activity in dried blood spot (DBS) samples. We validated this method and compared it to the fluorometric approach. We investigated the impact of K2EDTA and lithium heparin tubes on enzyme activity to identify the best sampl...

A simple voltammetric method to evaluate the firing distance through determination of nitrocellulose
Talanta. 2023 Aug 5;266(Pt 1):125040. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125040. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNitrocellulose (NC) is the main component of propellants for small firearm ammunitions. Even though NC particles are ejected from gun barrels together with bullets and they are often recovered on close-to-muzzle targets, quantitative analysis of nitrocellulose for forensic purposes has been neglected so far. Moreover, although the presence of the nitroester groups makes nitrocellulose electroactive, its electrochemical determination has been poorly considered in literature. In this paper, a quantitative differential puls...

Balancing Interfacial Reactions through Regulating p-Band Centers by an Indium Tin Oxide Protective Layer for Stable Zn Metal Anodes
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Aug 10:e202308454. doi: 10.1002/anie.202308454. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetallic zinc (Zn) is considered as one of the most attractive anode materials for the post-lithium metal battery systems owing to the high theoretical capacity, low cost, and intrinsic safety. However, the Zn dendrites and parasitic side reaction impede its application. Herein, we propose a new principle of regulating p-band center of metal oxide protective coating to balance Zn adsorption energy and migration energy barrier for effective Zn deposition and stripping. Experimental results and theoretical calculations ...

Lithium polyacrylate as lithium and carbon source in the synthesis of Li3VO4for high-rate and long-life Li-ion batteries
ChemSusChem. 2023 Aug 9:e202300979. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300979. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLi3VO4 is a promising anode material for use in lithium-ion batteries, however, the conventional synthesis methods for Li3VO4 anodes involve the separate use of lithium and carbon sources, resulting in inefficient contact and low crystalline quality. Herein, we utilized lithium polyacrylate (LiPAA) as a dual-functional source and employed an in-situ polymerization followed by a spray-drying method to synthesize Li3VO4. LiPAA serves a dual purpose, acting as both a lithium source to improve the crystal process and a carbon source ...

An Increase in Peroxiredoxin 6 Expression Induces Neurotoxic A1 Astrocytes in the Lumbar Spinal Cord of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Mice Model
In this study, we observed that the expression of peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6), a member of the peroxiredoxin family, was markedly upregulated in astrocytes of the lumbar spinal cord of SOD1G93A mice model for ALS. Additionally, when PRDX6 was transiently transfected into the mouse astrocyte cell line C8-D1A and human astrocytoma cell line U-251 MG, the mRNA expression of complement C3 (a marker for A1 astrocyte phenotype) and inflammatory cytokines was increased. Furthermore, the mRNA expression of C3 and inflammatory cytokine was increased in C8-D1A and U-251 MG cells stably expressing PRDX6, and the increased mRNA expression...

Understanding of Stress-Driven Internal Short Circuit Mechanisms in Lithium-Ion Batteries with High SOCs
In this study, combined post-mortem characterization and multiphysics modeling is employed to clarify the evolution of ISC modes in LIBs with high SOCs. These findings reveal that the triggered ISC mode is SOC-dependent, with the Al current collector (Al)-Anode coating (An) mode dominant in high SOC situations. Experimentally obtained ISC resistance for the specified ISC mode is then assigned to the corresponding ISC region in the established multiphysics model, allowing for accurate coupling of the electromechanical relationship and prediction of mechanical-electrical-thermal responses of the LIB. Finally, a simple yet ef...
