Lithium: An Old Drug for New Therapeutic Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia
Neurodegener Dis. 2023 Sep 4. doi: 10.1159/000533797. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Although Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, the effective treatment of AD is not available currently. Multiple trials of drugs, which were developed based on the amyloid hypothesis of AD, have not been highly successful to improve cognitive and other symptoms in AD patients, suggesting that it is necessary to explore additional and alternative approaches for the disease-modifying treatment of AD. The diverse lines of evidence have revealed that lithium reduces amyloid and tau pathology, attenuates neur...

Development and Verification of a Diagnostic Technology for Waste Battery Deterioration Factors
Chemphyschem. 2023 Sep 4:e202300438. doi: 10.1002/cphc.202300438. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe defined four major deterioration factors (electrolyte loss (EL), lithium loss (LL), lithium precipitation (LP), and compound deterioration (CD)). Then, we derived eleven key performance indicators (KPIs) for comparative analysis. After that, we fabricated three deteriorated cells for each of three deterioration factors (EL, LL, and LP) and one cell with CD (for verification) with four individual (dis)charging experiment manuals. The two major contributions of this study are the performance of 1) trend analysis to determine a ...

Impact of glazing on wear, fracture load, and optical properties of a new fully crystallized lithium disilicate ceramic material
CONCLUSIONS: The glazed fully crystallized LDS was superior to the partially crystallized one with regard to wear resistance but showed more color changes than the polished fully crystallized one. Furthermore, polishing of fully crystallized LDS could still be considered a better option than glazing when aesthetics is a primary prerequisite.PMID:37660448 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmbbm.2023.106102

Surface Passivation of LiCoO2 by Solid Electrolyte Nanoshell for High Interfacial Stability and Conductivity
ChemSusChem. 2023 Sep 3:e202300715. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300715. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe practical application of lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2) cathodes at high voltages is hindered by the instability of the surface structure and side reactions with the electrolyte. Herein, we prepared a multifunctional hierarchical core@double-shell structured LiCoO2 (MS-LCO) cathode material using a scalable sol-gel method. The MS-LCO cathode material comprised an outer shell with fast lithium-ion conductivity, a La/Zr co-doped inner shell, and a bulk LiCoO2 core. The outermost shell prevented direct contact between the electro...
