Venous Thromboembolism Risk in Patients With Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma Treated with Carfilzomib or Bortezomib in Combination With Lenalidomide and Dexamethasone
CONCLUSION: In this cohort, KRd was not associated with an increase in VTE risk compared to VRd, contrary to prior literature.PMID:37543510 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2023.07.009

CB1 receptor expression and signaling are required for dexamethasone-induced aversive memory consolidation
Neuropharmacology. 2023 Aug 2;239:109674. doi: 10.1016/j.neuropharm.2023.109674. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe molecular processes that underlie long-term memory formation involve signaling pathway activation by neurotransmitter release, which induces the expression of immediate early genes, such as Zif268, having a key role in memory formation. In this work, we show that the cannabinoid CB1 receptor signaling is necessary for the effects of dexamethasone on the behavioral response in an inhibitory avoidance task, on dexamethasone-induced ERK phosphorylation, and on dexamethasone-dependent Zif268 expression. Furthermor...

Mesenchymal stem cells alleviate dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy in mice and the involvement of ERK1/2 signalling pathway
CONCLUSIONS: ADSCs restore the pathogenesis of Dex-induced muscle atrophy with an increased number of type I fibres, stronger muscle strength, faster recovery rate and more anti-fatigue ability via ERK1/2 signalling pathway. The inhibition of muscle atrophy-associated genes by ADSCs offered this treatment as an intervention option for muscle-associated diseases. Taken together, our findings suggested that adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy could be a new treatment option for patient with Dex-induced muscle atrophy.PMID:37542297 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-023-03418-0

Ionically bridged dexamethasone sodium phosphate-zinc-PLGA nanocomplex in alginate microgel for the local treatment of ulcerative colitis
Arch Pharm Res. 2023 Aug 3. doi: 10.1007/s12272-023-01456-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColon-targeted oral drug delivery systems comprising nanoparticles and microparticles have emerged as promising tools for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) because they minimize side effects and maximize the local drug concentration. Dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DSP) is a potent anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid used for the treatment of UC. However, it remains a rather short-term treatment option owing to its side effects. In the present study, we developed the alginate gel encapsulating ionically bridged DSP-zinc-poly(lact...

Ursolic acid alleviates steroid-induced avascular necrosis of the femoral head in mouse by inhibiting apoptosis and rescuing osteogenic differentiation
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 1:116649. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2023.116649. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSteroid-induced avascular necrosis of femoral head (SANFH) is a common disorder worldwide with high disability. Overdose of glucocorticoid (GC) is the most common non-traumatic cause of SANFH. Up until now, there are limited therapeutic strategies for curing SANFH, and the mechanisms underlying SANFH progression remain unclear. Nevertheless, Osteogenic dysfunction is considered to be one of the crucial pathobiological mechanisms in the development of SANFH, which involves mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs...

Chem Biodivers. 2023 Aug 2:e202301037. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202301037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFour undescribed phenolic glycosides including three stilbene derivatives (1 and 3) and sodium salt of 3 (2), and a chalcone glycoside (4), together with thirteen known compounds (5-17) were isolated from the leaves of Syzygium attopeuense (Gagnep.) Merr. & L.M.Perry. Their chemical structures were elucidated to be (Z)-gaylussacin (1), 6''-O-galloylgaylussacin sodium salt (2), 6''-O-galloylgaylussacin (3), 4'-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-glucopyranosyl]oxy-2'-hydroxy-6'-methoxydihydrochalcone (4), gaylussacin (5), pinosi...

Ovine CRH stimulation and 8 mg dexamethasone suppression tests in 323 patients with ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: CRH is a valuable tool to correctly diagnose the etiology of ACTH-dependent CS. Its current world-wide unavailability impedes optimal management of these patients.PMID:37531629 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad454
