Macronodular adrenal hyperplasia causing Cushing's syndrome due to ARMC5 gene mutation.
Orv Hetil. 2023 Aug 13;164(32):1271-1277. doi: 10.1556/650.2023.32817. Print 2023 Aug 13.ABSTRACTOur 69-year-old female patient was investigated for a 20 kg weight gain over 2 years. The patient's medical history included hypertension, hyperuricemia, bilateral cataract surgery and musculosceletal complaints. Diabetes mellitus was not found. Physical examination revealed abdominal obesity, proximal myopathy and atrophic, vulnerable skin. The "overnight", low-dose and long, low-dose dexamethasone suppression tests indicated autonomous cortisol overproduction (plasma cortisol level: 172.6 and 153.2 nmol/L, cut-off: 50 nmol/L)...

Assessment of the change of antiemetic prophylaxis from double to triple combination in patients with high dose carboplatin chemotherapy
CONCLUSIONS: TC showed superiority in early and delayed CINV control in carboplatin AUC ≥ 4 regimens, with no significant differences among cancer types. Change in NEPA administration timing has beneficial implications; it allows NEPA to be administered at hospitals before chemotherapy session.PMID:37563932 | DOI:10.1177/10781552231194077

The Effect and Safety of Olanzapine on Nausea and Vomiting in Children Receiving Moderately Emetogenic Chemotherapy
CONCLUSION: This study showed that olanzapine, which acts as an inhibitor of neurotransmitters, had a favorable efficacy in controlling acute and delayed CINV. More studies with large sample size are needed to compare the effect of olanzapine with other agents including aprepitant and palonosetron in the prevention of CINV.PMID:37564446 | PMC:PMC10410408 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_356_22

Molecular mechanisms and treatment responses of pulmonary fibrosis in severe COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: ICU patients with COVID-19 who develop PF exhibit upregulated coagulation, inflammation, and neutrophil extracellular trap-related pathways as well as prolonged ICU length-of-stay and mortality. This study indicates that early dexamethasone treatment neither influences the incidence or clinical course of PF, nor clinical outcomes.PMID:37559053 | DOI:10.1186/s12931-023-02496-1

1,25(OH) < sub > 2 < /sub > D < sub > 3 < /sub > and Its Analogue Calcipotriol Inhibit the Migration of Human Synovial and Mesenchymal Stromal Cells in a Wound Healing Model - a Comparison with Glucocorticoids
In this study, calcipotriol was studied in different in vitro methods to find out its effect on synovial and mesenchymal stromal cells. Primary human cell lines of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis patients (five mesenchymal stromal cells, MSC, and four synovial stromal cells, SSC) were cultured to study migration and proliferation of the cells in a wound healing model. The media was supplemented with calcipotriol, 1,25(OH)2D3, dexamethasone, betamethasone, methylprednisolone or control solution in 1 nM-100 nM concentrations. To see possible toxic effects of calcipotriol, concentrations up to 10µM in SSCs and MSCs we...

Overactivated Epithelial NF- κB Disrupts Lung Development in Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. 2023 Aug 8. doi: 10.1165/rcmb.2023-0138OC. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAbnormal lung development is the main cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a common birth defect (1:2500) of largely unknown pathobiology. Recent studies discovered that inflammatory processes, and specifically NF-κB associated pathways are enriched in human and experimental CDH. However, the molecular signaling of NF-κB in abnormal CDH lung development and its potential as a therapeutic target requires further investigation. Using sections and hypoplastic lung explant cu...
