In vitro evaluation for estrogenic mechanisms of the disinfectant benzalkonium chloride as an emerging contaminant
This study aimed to evaluate in vitro the possible mechanisms underlying the estrogenic potential of benzalkonium chloride (BAC) as a disinfectant emerging contaminant. Effects of BAC at the environmentally-relevant concentrations on estrogen synthesis and estrogen receptor (ER) signaling were assessed using the H295R steroidogenesis assay and the MCF-7 proliferation assay, respectively. Results showed that exposure to BAC at concentrations of 1.0-1.5 mg/L for 48 h significantly increased estradiol production of H295R cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Transcription of steroidogenic genes 3β-HSD2, 17β-HSD1, 17β-...

Development of matrix-based reference materials for 17 beta-estradiol by the recommended reference method of ID-LC-MS/MS
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2023 Jul 25. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-04832-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe developed and evaluated two-level, namely 2017011 and 2017012, serum-based reference materials (RMs) for 17 beta-estradiol (17 β-E2) by the reference method of isotope dilution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC-MS/MS) from the remaining serum samples after routine clinical tests, to help improve clinical routine testing and provide the traceability of results. This paper describes the development process of these RMs. The National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) certified reference material (CRM) 6004-...

The Application of 18F-FES PET in Clinical Cancer Care: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: [18F]fluoroestradiol PET is not only a convenient and accurate diagnostic imaging tool for detecting ER-expressing lesions in patients with breast and ovarian cancer but also among patients with uterine cancer. [18F]fluoroestradiol PET is a noninvasive predictive and monitoring tool for treatment response and prognosis.PMID:37482660 | DOI:10.1097/RLU.0000000000004760

Fabrication of 1-octane sulphonic acid modified nanoporous graphene with tuned hydrophilicity for decontamination of industrial wastewater from organic and inorganic contaminants
RSC Adv. 2023 Jul 20;13(32):21926-21944. doi: 10.1039/d3ra02602g. eCollection 2023 Jul 19.ABSTRACTThis research work is based on the fabrication of a graphene oxide-based composite (GOBC) to remove the maximum number of contaminants from different industrial effluents. The GO was first intercalated with 1-octanesulphonic acid sodium salt and subjected to microwave irradiation to produce GOBC. Fixed-bed column tests and Jar-tests were performed for removal of the most harmful endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) such as bisphenol A, bisphenol S, endosulphan, beta-estradiol, dyes (methylene blue and violate) and toxic metal...
