Sequence identification and expression characterization of leptin in the spotted scat, Scatophagus argus
Comp Biochem Physiol B Biochem Mol Biol. 2023 Aug 8:110882. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpb.2023.110882. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTScatophagus argus is an important marine culture fish in South and South-East Asia, including Southeast coastal areas of China. Artificial propagation technology for S. argus is not optimum; thus further studies on its reproduction biology are required. Although previous studies have shown that leptin (Lep) can regulate fish reproduction, the role of lep genes in S. argus is unknown. Herein, in silico analysis showed that S. argus has two lep genes (lepa and lepb). Protein 3D-structure prediction showe...

Evaluation of a high-throughput H295R homogenous time resolved fluorescence assay for androgen and estrogen steroidogenesis screening
The objective of this study was to leverage commercial immunoassay technology to develop a more efficient H295R assay to measure E2 and T levels in 384-well format. The resulting Homogenous Time Resolved Fluorescence assay platform (H295R-HTRF) was evaluated against a training set of 36 chemicals derived from the OECD inter-laboratory validation study, EPA guideline 890.1200 aromatase assay, and azole fungicides active in the HT-H295R assay. Quality control performance criteria were met for all conditions except E2 synthesis inhibition where low basal hormone synthesis was observed. Five proficiency chemicals were active f...

Estrogen receptor and immune checkpoint inhibitors: new partners in lung cancer?
Clin Cancer Res. 2023 Aug 7:CCR-23-1736. doi: 10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1736. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe influence of sex on immunotherapy response in NSCLC patients had been studied with no clear conclusions. An article in this issue reports that a key determinant of response is not sex but the existence of a 17-β-estradiol/ERα/PDL1 signaling loop in NSCLC. This intriguing result opens new therapeutic options.PMID:37548629 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1736

Molecular characterization of breast cancer cell pools with normal or reduced ability to respond to progesterone: a study based on RNA-seq
CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides new insights into the complex role of PR in ERα-positive/PR-positive breast cancer cells. Many of the genes affected by PR are part of central biological processes of tumorigenesis.PMID:37550554 | DOI:10.1186/s43141-023-00541-6

Next generation 3D-printed intravaginal ring for prevention of HIV and unintended pregnancy
Biomaterials. 2023 Aug 3;301:122260. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2023.122260. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlobally, there are 20 million adolescent girls and young women living with HIV who have limited access to long-acting, effective, women-controlled preventative methods. Additionally, although there are many contraceptive methods available, globally, half of all pregnancies remain unintended. Here we report the first 3D-printed multipurpose prevention technology (MPT) intravaginal ring (IVR) for HIV prevention and contraception. We utilized continuous liquid interface production (CLIP™) to fabricate MPT IVRs in a b...
