Ranitidine Use and Incident Cancer in a Multinational Cohort
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study, ranitidine use was not associated with an increased risk of cancer compared with the use of other H2RAs. Further research is needed on the long-term association of ranitidine with cancer development.PMID:37725377 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2023.33495

Interactive effects of CDKN2B-AS1 gene polymorphism and habitual risk factors on oral cancer
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17966. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a common malignant disease associated with a high mortality rate and heterogeneous disease aetiology. Cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 2B antisense RNA 1 (CDKN2B-AS1), is a long noncoding RNA that has been shown to act as a scaffold, sponge, or signal hub to promote carcinogenesis. Here, we attempted to assess the effect of CDKN2B-AS1 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the susceptibility to OSCC. Five CDKN2B-AS1 SNPs, including rs564398, rs1333048, rs1537373, rs2151280 and rs8181047, were analy...

Multi-omics approaches identify novel prognostic biomarkers of autophagy in uveal melanoma
CONCLUSION: We identified six novel potential prognostic biomarkers in UVM, all of which are associated with autophagy and TME. These findings will shed new light on UVM therapy with inhibitors targeting these biomarkers expected to regulate autophagy and reshape the TME, significantly improving UVM treatment outcomes.PMID:37725244 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05401-x

Reconstruction of plantar surgical defects with synthetic dermal matrix and split-thickness skin grafts: A case series and functional podiatry outcomes
We present a case series of surgical defects on weight-bearing areas of the sole reconstructed using a synthetic dermal matrix and a split-thickness skin graft. This approach prevents surrounding tissue displacement and results in good functional outcomes assessed by baropodometry and computer-based podoscopy.PMID:37724606 | DOI:10.1111/ajd.14161

RT-qPCR Analysis of LAMP3 (CD208) Gene Expression in Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: According to the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the expression of the LAMP3 gene in SCC lesions is higher than in healthy tissue. Hence, LAMP3 gene expression can be used as a diagnostic biomarker.PMID:37724152 | PMC:PMC10505466 | DOI:10.52547/rbmb.12.1.36

Integration of palliative care in the management of oral squamous cell carcinoma
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):1-4. doi: 10.6026/97320630019001. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTOral Squamous cell Cancers (OSCC) is strongly associated with tobacco consumption. We here in present a case study of a OSCC patient who refused standard oncological care (SOC), to highlight the importance of integrating palliative care (PC) for improved patient outcomes. A 61 years male patient, with history of chewing tobacco for more than 20 years and diagnosed to have OSCC for 1.5 years presented with severe anaemia and a cauliflower-like growth (12 x 10 cm) in the left oral cavity and cheek with greenish-yellow discharge. Pus ...

Assessing the prognostic value of IMDC risk score for nivolumab-treated patients with renal cancer and malignant melanoma
CONCLUSION: In our study, the IMDC was confirmed to be a prognostic factor for MM. The IMDC groups were similar, except for the favorable RCC and MM groups. Different metastatic sites were prognostic, similar to the IMDC risk group in the MM group.PMID:37718781 | DOI:10.3233/CBM-230159

Immune cells in skin inflammation, wound healing and skin cancer
J Leukoc Biol. 2023 Sep 18:qiad107. doi: 10.1093/jleuko/qiad107. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the self-evident importance of cutaneous immunity in the maintenance of body-surface homeostasis, disturbance of the steady-state skin is inextricably intertwined with dysfunction in cutaneous immunity. It is often overlooked by people that skin, well-known as a solid physical barrier, is also a strong immunological barrier considering the abundant presence of immune cells including lymphocytes, granulocytes, dendritic cells and macrophages. What's more, humoral immune components including cytokines, immunoglobulins and ant...
