Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Dermcidin-Containing Migrasomes enhance LC3-Associated Phagocytosis of Pulmonary Macrophages and Protect against Post-Stroke Pneumonia
Adv Sci (Weinh). 2023 May 28:e2206432. doi: 10.1002/advs.202206432. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPneumonia is one of the leading causes of death in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Antibiotics fail to improve prognosis of patients with post-stroke pneumonia, albeit suppressing infection, due to adverse impacts on the immune system. The current study reports that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC) downregulate bacterial load in the lungs of stroke mice models. RNA-sequencing of the lung from BM-MSC-treated stroke models indicates that BM-MSC modulates pulmonary macrophage activities after cerebral ischem...

Stem Cell Implants: Emerging Innovation for Stroke Recovery
J Neuro Oncol Res. 2023;3(1):3102. Epub 2023 Apr 30.ABSTRACTStroke is a debilitating neurovascular injury that those effects hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. Despite the high prevalence, disease morbidity and mortality, options for stroke intervention and rehabilitation are still limited. Stem cells have shown promise in stroke treatment due to their ability to self-renew and differentiate into different cell types. The primary sources of stem cells used today are bone marrow and fetal brain tissue, with mesenchymal stem cells, bone marrow stem cells and neural stem cells being particularly well-studied. By se...

Danhong injection improves neurological function in rats with ischemic stroke by enhancing neurogenesis and activating BDNF/AKT/CREB signaling pathway
In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of DHI on long-term neurological function recovery after cerebral ischemia and explored the related mechanisms. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was used to establish an IS model in rats. The efficacy of DHI was assessed using neurological severity scores, behaviors, cerebral infarction volume and histopathology. Immunofluorescence staining was performed to assess hippocampal neurogenesis. An in vitro oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) cell model was constructed and western-blot analyses were performed to verify the underlying mechanisms. Our results show...

Rat BM-MSCs secretome alone and in combination with stiripentol and ISRIB, ameliorated microglial activation and apoptosis in experimental stroke
CONCLUSION: STP and trans ISRIB, alone and in combination with rat BM-MSCs secretome, might be considered as potential neuroprotective agents in the acute ischemic stroke (AIS) management.DATA AVAILABILITY STATEMENT: Data will be made available on reasonable request.PMID:37146724 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114471

Synergistic effects of electroacupuncture and bone marrow stromal cells transplantation therapy in ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that the combination treatment significantly improved restoration of neurological deficits in the animal stroke model. However, further studies are required to see if EA could promote the rapid differentiation of BMSC into neural stem cells in the short term.PMID:37140285 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202304_32106
