Packed red blood cell (PRBC) transfusion is required in hematology patients treated with chemotherapy for acute leukemia, autologous (auto) or allogeneic (allo) hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). New-Onset Cardiovascular Morbidity in Older Adults With Stage I to III Colorectal Cancer.
Conclusion Older patients with colorectal cancer are at increased risk of developing CVD and CHF. Diabetes and hypertension interact with chemotherapy to increase the risk of cardiovascular morbidity. Future studies should assess the potential for personalized therapeutic options for those with preexisting morbidities and for structured monitoring for patients with a history of exposure to chemotherapy regimens, as well as explore the management of preexisting comorbidities to address long-term cardiovascular morbidity.

Outcomes of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in hospitalized cancer patients
ConclusionsOutcomes are significantly worse in patients with TCM and malignancy. Hence, this patient population must be regarded as high-risk and early diagnostic consideration for TCM is warranted. Early intervention may help lower mortality, decrease resource utilization and reduce the health care costs in these patients.

Anthracycline chemotherapy (AC) is associated with acute reductions in cardiopulmonary fitness (V˙O2peak). I tried to kill my father for years. To be fair, I was following his wishes. He’d made it clear that when he no longer recognized me, when he could no longer talk, when the nurses started treating him like a toddler, he didn’t want to live any longer.
My father was 58 years old when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He took the diagnosis with the self-deprecating humor he’d spent a lifetime cultivating, constantly cracking jokes about how he would one day turn into a zombie, a walking corpse. We had a good 10 years with him after the diagnosis. Eventually, his jokes came true.
