Gender Disparities with the Use of Percutaneous Left Ventricular Assist Device in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Complicated by Cardiogenic Shock: From pLVAD Working Group
Conclusions Despite the small number of cohorts, this study did not reveal any significant differences among gender with the use of percutaneous left ventricular assist devices for PCI in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by CS. However, initiation of Impella prior to PCI may be associated with improved mortality and morbidity in both genders.

‘Some doors are better left closed’: Using LAA occluders as an alternative to warfarin in very high-risk dialysed patients with atrial fibrillation
Since 2011, when the EMA approved the treatment with novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) for primary prevention of cardio-embolic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), a reasonable question repeatedly arose: “Will NOACs become the new standard of care in anticoagulation therapy?” [1]. While for many cathegories of patients the answer soon become positive [2], the sub-group of advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) 5D stage (in dialysis) has never received a “yes” from either FDA or EMA (none of t hem allowing the use of NOACs in 5D CKD).

Variability In NOAC Dose Adjustment In Atrial Fibrillation Patients With Renal Dysfunction: The Influence Of Renal Function Estimation Formulae
Conclusion MDRD and CKD-EPI eGFR fails to correctly identify a significant proportion of patients that require NOAC dose adjustment, limiting their clinical utility. Cockcroft-Gault eCrCl should be calculated for all patients in whom a NOAC is being prescribed. Teaser While glomerular filtration rate is the most common estimates of renal function employed in practice the landmark stroke prevention trials use of the Cockcroft-Gault creatinine clearance equation to determine drug eligibility and dose adjustment. In a large cohort of patients with non-dialysis dependent chronic kidney disease and atrial fibrillation the use o...

Transcatheter Versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients With Prior Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: Trends in Utilization and Propensity-Matched Analysis of In-Hospital Outcomes Structural Heart Disease
Conclusions— TAVR is being increasingly used as the preferred modality of AVR in patients with prior CABG. Compared with SAVR, TAVR is associated with similar in-hospital mortality but lower rates of in-hospital complications in this important subset of patients.

Risk of stroke and bleeding in patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease: a nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsCompared with patients without CKD, among incident heart failure patients without atrial fibrillation, CKD both with and without dialysis was associated with a higher rate of major bleeding and all‐cause death. Only CKD‐no RRT was associated with a higher rate of ischaemic stroke and intracranial bleeding.

Comparison of Outcomes of Transcatheter Versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease
There are few data comparing outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) vs. surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In this retrospective cohort study using the National Inpatient Sample 2011 – 2014, we included a total of 2820 TAVI and 4054 SAVR procedures, representative of 14,039 TAVI and 19,835 SAVR procedures nationally. Co-primary outcomes were in-hospital mortality, acute kidney injury (AKI), dialysis-requiring AKI, and post-operative stroke.

Impact of elevated glycosylated hemoglobin on hospital outcome and 1 year survival of primary isolated coronary artery bypass grafting patients
Conclusions This study showed that HbA1c is a good predictor of in-hospital morbidity. It worth devoting time and effort to decrease HbA1c level below 7% to decrease possible postoperative complications.

Association of Chronic Kidney Disease With In-Hospital Outcomes of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Conclusions Patients with CKD or ESRD have worse in-hospital outcomes after TAVR. AKI is associated with higher in-hospital mortality in patients undergoing TAVR and the incidence of AKI has not declined over the years.

Transcatheter or surgical aortic valve replacement in patients with advanced kidney disease: A propensity score –matched analysis
ConclusionsIn patients with advanced kidney disease, SAVR was associated with higher mortality and higher periprocedural complications, as compared with TAVR. Thus, benefits of TAVR could be extended in patients with advanced kidney disease who cannot undergo surgery.

Abstract P438: Cardio-Renal Anemia Syndrome in acute heart failure patients: An Observational data from “Gulf-CARE” Heart Failure Registry Session Title: Chronic Kidney Disease
Conclusions: In the setting of acute heart failure in CRAS patients LV function has no significant role in the incidence of in-hospital stroke, major bleeding and death.

Blood Pressure and Risk of Cardiovascular Events in Patients on Chronic HemodialysisNovelty and Significance Dialysis and Blood Pressure
In conclusion, among hemodialysis patients, although there is a U-shaped (paradoxical) association of dialysis-unit-SBP and risk of cardiovascular disease, there is a linear association of out-of-dialysis-unit-SBP with risk of cardiovascular disease. Out-of-dialysis-unit blood pressure provides key information and may be an important therapeutic target.

Impact of right and left ventricular systolic dysfunction on perioperative outcome and long ‐term survival after transcatheter aortic valve replacement
ConclusionsPeri‐operative mortality and risk of stroke after TAVR are not adversely affected by preexisting RV or LV dysfunction. Long‐term survival is impaired in patients with RVSD. RVSD but not LVSD is an independent risk factor for late mortality. TAVR should be the preferred therapy for patients with RVSD and LVSD, especially when patient is suitable for TF.
