Physical performance and cognition as predictors of instrumental activities of daily living after stroke: a prospective multicenter cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Combining measures of cognition and physical performance gave the best prediction of change in IADL. Function at 3 months seems to be predictive for long-term IADL status, which highlights the importance of targeted rehabilitation in the early and subacute phases after stroke.PMID:35181266 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2022.01.153

Incidence risks for cerebrovascular diseases and types of stroke in a cohort of Mayak PA workers
Radiat Environ Biophys. 2022 Feb 19. doi: 10.1007/s00411-022-00966-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIncidence risks for cerebrovascular diseases (CeVD) and some types of stroke in a cohort of 22,377 Russian Mayak nuclear workers chronically exposed to ionising radiation and followed up until the end of 2018 are reported. Among total 9469 cases of CeVD, 2078 cases were strokes that included 262 hemorrhagic strokes (HS) and 1611 ischemic strokes (IS). Data evaluation was performed with categorical and dose-response analyses estimating the relative risk (RR) and excess relative risk (ERR) per unit cumulative liver absorbed do...

A longitudinal examination of objective neighborhood walkability, body mass index, and waist circumference: the REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke study
CONCLUSION: People with cumulative neighborhood walkability scores in the Walker's Paradise range were less likely to be overweight/obese independent of other factors, while people with scores in the Very Walkable range were less likely to be overweight/obese and less likely to have a moderate-to-high risk WC. Addressing neighborhood walkability is one approach to combating obesity.PMID:35151322 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-022-01247-7

Predicting trends of community participation after hospital discharge for younger adults after stroke
CONCLUSION: Multiple sociodemographic and stroke-related variables, particularly physical function, predicted improvement in community participation by younger adults after stroke. These findings may help clinicians identify younger adults at risk of unfavorable long-term participation outcomes after stroke.PMID:35150932 | DOI:10.1016/j.rehab.2022.101644

Effects of the robot-assisted gait training device plus physiotherapy in improving ambulatory functions in subacute stroke patients with hemiplegia: An assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: RAGTD plus physiotherapy showed early improvements in walking ability and Barthel ADL index compared to the ground level training plus physiotherapy in subacute stroke patients with hemiplegia.PMID:35143747 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2022.01.146

The effects of ankle-foot orthoses with plantar flexion stop and plantar flexion resistance using rocker-sole shoes on stroke gait: A randomized-controlled trial
CONCLUSION: According to the orthotic effect, an AFO-PlfR can create better function in the improvement of parameters related to the first rocker. Although a rocker shoe can facilitate rollover for weight progression in the third rocker of gait, it cannot make a strong push-off function in stroke survivors.PMID:35141485 | PMC:PMC8790265 | DOI:10.5606/tftrd.2021.6448

Cerebrovascular Disease Mortality after occupational Radiation Exposure among the UK National Registry for Radiation Workers Cohort
This study uses data from the UK National Registry for Radiation Workers cohort to assess the association between low-dose exposure to external radiation and cerebrovascular disease (CeVD) mortality. Poisson regression was used to estimate the Excess Relative Risk of CeVD mortality per Sievert (ERR/Sv) of radiation exposure. Estimates were obtained for all CeVD combined, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke and other/ill-defined CeVD. Results were adjusted for attained age, calendar period, sex, employer, industrial category and employment length. 166,812 nuclear workers (3,665,413 person-years) were included. By the end of...
