Association of Homocysteine with Acute Stroke and Its Subtypes in the Chinese Population
CONCLUSION: Plasma Hcy levels were found to be positively correlated with the risk of stroke, particularly in the context of LAA, SAO stroke, and HICH. Additionally, Hcy levels demonstrated a positive correlation with stroke severity in patients presenting with SAO stroke. These findings suggest potential clinical implications in stroke prevention, particularly for ischemic stroke (LAA, SAO subtypes) and HICH by employing homocysteine-lowering therapies. Future investigations are warranted to fully elucidate these associations.PMID:37342757 | PMC:PMC10278861 | DOI:10.2147/NDT.S409591

Prevalence, Incidence and Mortality of Stroke in China: Results from a Nationwide Population-Based Survey of 480,687 Adults.
CONCLUSIONS: -Stroke burden in China has increased over the last 30 years, and remains particularly high in rural areas. There is a north-to-south gradient in stroke in China, with the greatest stroke burden observed in the northern and central regions. PMID: 28052979 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The associations of lipids and lipid ratios with stroke: A prospective cohort study
In conclusion, TC/HDL‐C ratio may better predict stroke risk in men, whereas TG was more valuable in predicting stroke risk in women. TC/HDL‐C and TG may help to discriminate high stroke risk individuals and serve as potential targets for stroke prevention.

Predictive Value of Cystatin C for Stroke Recurrence in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: In ischemic stroke patients with high hsCRP concentrations, higher CysC concentrations increased the risk of stroke recurrence and vascular events. This indicates that the predictive value of CysC on stroke recurrence may depend on the inflammation status of patients. PMID: 33208593 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prognostic Value of International Normalized Ratio in Ischemic Stroke Patients without Atrial Fibrillation or Anticoagulation Therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: Increased admission INR was associated with adverse stroke outcomes among acute ischemic stroke patients without atrial fibrillation or anticoagulation therapy. PMID: 30318486 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The contribution of plasma uric acid to the risk of stroke in hypertensive populations.
CONCLUSIONS: High UA level could significantly increase stroke risk in female hypertensive patients. Female hypertensive patients may benefit from managing UA at normal levels for stroke prevention. PMID: 32790821 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prevalence and Risk Factors of High-Risk Population for Stroke: A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Survey in Southwestern China
Front Neurol. 2022 Mar 2;13:693894. doi: 10.3389/fneur.2022.693894. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTWith the aging of the population and the change of lifestyle in China, the prevalence and risk factors of the high-risk population for stroke may change. However, few studies performed community-based high-risk stroke population surveys in China. Hence, we performed this multicenter, cross-sectional, and community-based survey in Sichuan of southwestern China, according to the China National Stroke Screening Survey (CNSSS) program in 2015. The residents aged ≥ 40 years volunteered to participate in the face-to-face survey in 8 co...

Longitudinal Average Glucose Levels and Variance and Risk of Stroke: A Chinese Cohort Study.
Conclusions: Our results suggest that higher average glucose levels (126-139.9 mg/dl) and variance may be risk factors for stroke, even among people without diabetes diagnosis. PMID: 32373352 [PubMed]

Predictive Role of hsCRP in Recurrent Stroke Differed According to Severity of Cerebrovascular Disease: Analysis from a Prospective Cohort Study
J Clin Med. 2023 Feb 20;12(4):1676. doi: 10.3390/jcm12041676.ABSTRACTElevated levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) were associated with an increased risk of recurrent stroke. However, it is still unknown whether the predictive value of hsCRP differed according to the severity of cerebrovascular disease. We used the cohort of the prospective multicenter cohort study of the Third China National Stroke Registry (CNSR-III), in which 10,765 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) had hsCRP levels measured. Patients were classified into minor stroke, or TIA, and non-min...

Association of Stroke Subtype With Hemorrhagic Transformation Mediated by Thrombectomy Pass: Data From the ANGEL-ACT Registry
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke subtype is an independent risk factor for HT within 24 hours following endovascular treatment among acute large vessel occlusion patients. Mediation analyses propose that stroke subtype contributes to HT partly through thrombectomy pass, suggesting a possible pathomechanistic link.PMID:35354298 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.121.037411

Stroke in patients with prosthetic valve endocarditis : Single-center cohort study in China.
CONCLUSION: Stroke is a common complication in PVE that increases patient mortality. Rheumatic heart disease, double valve replacement, and fungal infection may be risk factors for patients with PVE complicated by stroke. PMID: 31076822 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Analysis of Carotid Ultrasound Screening of High-Risk Groups of Stroke Based on Big Data Technology
J Healthc Eng. 2022 Jan 25;2022:6363691. doi: 10.1155/2022/6363691. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIn order to understand detection of carotid atherosclerosis in the screening of high-risk stroke populations in a certain area of China, we have analyzed related risk factors of CAS. In accordance with the requirements of the "2015 Technical Plan for the Screening and Intervention Projects for High-Risk Stroke Populations," a cluster sampling method was used to select 4532 (number of screened persons from 2015 to 2021) permanent residents over 41 years old () in Shaheying Town, Liulin Town, Chenggu County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Pr...

Association and mediating mechanism between remnant cholesterol and first-ever stroke among the Chinese general population
CONCLUSION: High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. RC might be a potential target for the primary prevention of stroke.PMID:37304024 | PMC:PMC10247974 | DOI:10.3389/fnins.2023.1161367
