Abstract 5577: Text-mining methods applied to clinical records support an association between androgen deprivation therapy and subsequent cardiometabolic disease
We conducted this study to examine the association of androgen deprivation therapy in the treatment of prostate cancer with future metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Here we utilize electronic medical record data from 1.8 million subjects in the Stanford Translational Research Integrated Database Environment. Specifically, we extracted ICD-9 diagnostic codes, patient medication lists and data from clinical notes using a previously validated text-analytics pipeline. Through this approach, we identified a cohort of 4,578 individuals with prostate cancer containing data on all defined covariates including Gleason score, age...

Abstract PD4-2: Cardiovascular toxicity following aromatase inhibitor use in 13,273 survivors cared for in a HMO
Discussion These results indicate that variation exists in the type of CVD events that occur in breast cancer patients receiving AIs in comparison to tamoxifen users. For example, the risk of ischemic disease or stroke was not elevated in those who used AIs only versus TAM users. However, overall CVD events were greater in women who used AIs only (or sequentially after TAM), especially if they received left-sided breast irradiation. While these observational study results require cautious interpretation, they provide a basis for comparing the benefits and risks of endocrine treatments. Citation Format: Reina Haque, Joanne ...

Risk of ischemic stroke after androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer in the Chinese population living in Hong Kong
Conclusions There was increased risk of ischemic stroke after androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer in the Chinese population. The risk of ischemic stroke should be considered while deciding on androgen deprivation therapy, especially in older patients with known history of hyperlipidemia.

Treatment and survival of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis associated hepatocellular carcinoma
Background: The incidence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is increasing worldwide and a poorly defined subset of patients develops end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Differences in the biological behaviour, tumour characteristics, associated risk factors, treatment outcomes and overall survival of patients with NASH-HCC remain poorly defined. The aim of this study was to determine and analyze these differences in a large clinical cohort to guide treatment decisions. Methods: 1119 patients with HCC treated in an 11 year period at the University Medical Centre of the Johannes Gutenberg Unive...

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and non-communicable diseases: meta-analysis based systematic review.
In conclusion, n-3 PUFA plays a crucial role in the prevention of NCDs, however, unfavourable effects should be considered in subjects with certain clinical conditions. Cross-cultural studies on the effect of n-3 PUFA on type 2 diabetes are needed to verify why diabetic patients with different ancestries have a different response to n-3 PUFA. Abstract A12: Cancer communication in African American churches
Conclusion: Cancer was a frequent topic for disease-focused messages in African-American churches. In addition, three of the five most frequent disease topics matched the leading causes of death in the African-American community. The match was not as close in regards to leading causes of cancer death. Breast and prostate cancer information was frequently found; however, despite the high rates of mortality associated with lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and leukemia/lymphoma, information on these cancers was present much less frequently. No pancreatic cancer messages were found. Disease related information was seen that inc...

The JPHC Study: Design and Some Findings on the Typical Japanese Diet
The Japan Public Health Center-based prospective Study conducted a baseline survey for 140 000 registered residents aged 40–69 years within 11 public health center areas nationwide in 1990–94. Five- and 10-year follow-up surveys were conducted to update information on lifestyle habits and health conditions. In total, 130 000 participants responded to at least one of the three questionnaire surveys, and 78 000 to all three. In addition, 60 000 participants provided blood samples on at least one of the two sampling times, and 23 000 on both. The subjects have been followed for vital status and the occurrence of c...
