The association between direct oral anticoagulant concentration upon acute stroke and stroke outcome
CONCLUSION: Among DOAC users who developed IS, low drug concentrations at hospital presentation predicted poor outcomes.PMID:36990874 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.03.023

Prevalence and natural history of depression after stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
ConclusionsIn this study, we observed that stroke survivors with early-onset depression (within 3 months after stroke) are at high risks for remaining depressed and make up two-thirds of the incident cases during 1 year after stroke. This highlights the need for ongoing clinical monitoring of patients depressed shortly after stroke. Trial RegistrationPROSPERO CRD42022314146.

Preoperative Medical Consultation —Time to Reevaluate a Questionable Process
Preoperative medical consultation is intended to optimize patient safety before elective surgery by reducing adverse postoperative outcomes and mortality. However, to our knowledge, few randomized clinical trials have studied whether there is benefit or harm in this practice, and observational data provide a mixed picture. Beckerleg et al conducted a large retrospective cohort study using linked administrative databases to evaluate the association of preoperative evaluation with outcomes among patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. They found small but statistically significant increases in 30-day mortality, 1-year mortal...

Prognostic role of the left ventricular global function index in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events in acute coronary syndrome patients
Conclusion: Echocardiographic LVGFI may be a useful prognostic screening tool for acute coronary syndrome cohorts.PMID:36942625 | DOI:10.2217/bmm-2023-0063

Lateral medullary syndrome: uncommon form of brainstem stroke
CONCLUSION: LMS is a rare form of brainstem stroke and carries a favorable prognosis if early hospitalization and treatment is applied. Brain MRI, including diffusion sequence, is the most useful diagnostic tool for detecting LMS.PMID:36923779 | PMC:PMC10010825 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000260

Research on Hepatocyte Regulation of PCSK9-LDLR and Its Related Drug Targets
AbstractThe prevalence of hyperlipidemia has increased significantly due to genetic, dietary, nutritional and pharmacological factors, and has become one of the most common pathological conditions in humans. Hyperlipidemia can lead to a range of diseases such as atherosclerosis, stroke, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, diabetes, and kidney failure, etc. High circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is one of the causes of hyperlipidemia. LDL-C in the blood binds to LDL receptor (LDLR) and regulates cholesterol homeostasis through endocytosis. In contrast, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin ...

Prognostic implications of stress hyperglycemia ratio in patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries
CONCLUSIONS: The SHR independently confers the cardiovascular risk after MINOCA, and may serve as a better predictor than glycemia at admission alone, particularly in those with diabetes.KEY MESSAGESStress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) is independently associated with the prognosis in a distinct population with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA).SHR is a better predictor of prognosis than admission glycemia alone, especially in diabetic patients with MINOCA.SHR may serve as a prognostic marker for risk stratification as well as a potential target for tailored glucose-lowering treatment in MINO...
