Cytomegalovirus viremia in an 11-year-old child with sickle cell disease manifested only with fever: a case report
CONCLUSION: This case highlights the need to consider CMV infection in the differential diagnosis of every case of fever of unknown origin, regardless of the patient's immune status.PMID:37427240 | PMC:PMC10328612 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000877

Cerebellopontine angle meningioma in a patient presented as acute cerebrovascular accident
CONCLUSION: Although stroke is the main cause of sudden onset ataxia in a patient with cerebrovascular risk factors, yet other less common causes may be found as in this case of CPA meningioma.PMID:37427233 | PMC:PMC10328571 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000928

Cerebrovascular disease in patients with COVID-19 infection: a case series from Lebanon
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2023 Jun 10;85(7):3701-3708. doi: 10.1097/MS9.0000000000000953. eCollection 2023 Jul.ABSTRACTCOVID-19 has been associated with a variety of multi-organs complications, with an increasing proportion of patients presenting with neurologic manifestations. There is still an uncertainty in the relationship between stroke and COVID-19. Therefore, in this study, the authors report 18 cases of acute stroke occurring in the setting of COVID-19 infection, including 11 ischaemic strokes and 7 haemorrhagic strokes and identified in a Lebanese tertiary hospital. In this case series, patients with ischaemic and haem...

Breakage of an orogastric tube in a critically Ill patient: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: Timely identification of the broken feeding tube can help the treating clinicians retrieve it easily even with the help of a laryngoscope in selected patients.PMID:37427201 | PMC:PMC10328672 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001008

Differential Diagnosis of New Giant T-Wave Inversions
To the Editor The electrocardiogram (ECG) presented by Dr Cai and colleagues is indeed a great challenge. Two days after a fall, an older patient was admitted to the hospital with a hip fracture that was treated by external fixation and skin traction. On hospital day 2, the patient suddenly lost consciousness. An ECG immediately performed showed giant negative T waves (>20 mm) in the precordial leads and a QTc prolongation of 535 milliseconds. Cardiac troponin was elevated. Findings of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (performed because of neurologic deficits) showed bilateral multifocal subacute ische...

Basilar artery diameter as neuroimaging biomarker in Chinese Fabry disease patients
Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disease resulting from mutations of α-galactosidase A gene, and has been emphasized as one of the etiologies of young stroke and leukoencephalopathy. Vertebr...

Aortic stiffness plays a role in the discrepancy between mitral valve lesion severity and hemodynamic burden of secondary mitral regurgitation
CONCLUSION: In this HFrEF cohort with sMR, higher PWV was associated with higher-than-expected RF for a given EROA. Aortic stiffness might play a role in the discrepancy between mitral valve lesion severity and sMR hemodynamic burden.PMID:37393182 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.06.024

Assessment of dizziness in neurology
Dizziness and vertigo are common symptoms. In acute vertigo, expert clinical assessment is critically important in discerning stroke from non-stroke causes because the results of stroke-protocol brain magnetic resonance imaging, including diffusion-weighted imaging, can be falsely negative in the first 24 hours. It follows that acute medical services must have access to clinicians expert in assessing acute vertigo. Expertise in clinical examination and interpretation of the findings requires appropriate training, but here we outline the basic diagnostic and therapeutic approach to patients with dizziness.
