An acute lower limb ischemia revealing a covid-19 infection: A case report
CONCLUSION: The coagulopathy responsible for venous and arterial thrombosis is a well-established complication of COVID-19. Arterial thromboembolic complications can be either stroke, acute coronary syndrome or peripheral acute ischemia. Therefore, patients with covid19 should be monitored more closely for thromboembolic complications.PMID:35999833 | PMC:PMC9389520 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104445

Person-centred care in individuals with stroke: a qualitative study using in-depth interviews
CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: This paper describes relevant aspects that health professionals should consider when providing PCC in the context of the rehabilitation of individuals with stroke. Key messagesThe individuals' perspective regarding person-centred care (PCC) has considerable effects on the clinical practice of health professionals.Individuals with stroke describe how there is a person behind the "patient" label, with identity, needs and desire to participate in decision making.Training in the PCC model helps healthcare professionals identify the needs of individuals with stroke during rehabilitation.PMID:359303...

Association of post-stroke-initiated antidepressants with long-term outcomes in young adults with ischaemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: In young adults, PSAD initiation within the first year after IS was associated with a heightened hazard of recurrent ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke in the long term. Future studies are needed to verify the results and to further study the nature of this finding.KEY MESSAGESInitiation of post-stroke antidepressants (PSADs) within the first year after ischaemic stroke (IS) was associated with a heightened hazard of recurrent ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke in the long term.Patients starting antidepressants after IS should be followed up more closely in case of recurrent events.Future studies are needed to ver...

Moyamoya syndrome and stroke among pediatric sickle cell disease patients in Sudan: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Stroke is a common problem in Sudanese pediatric patients with sickle cell disease, with a very high frequency of Moyamoya vasculopathy among patients with stroke presentation. The burden of Moyamoya syndrome in Sudanese pediatric patients with sickle cell disease is underestimated due to the cost of the available screening and diagnostic tools.PMID:35734737 | PMC:PMC9206931 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103815

Prognostic value of systemic inflammatory response index in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
CONCLUSION: SIRI was an independent risk factor for MACE and provided incremental prognostic information in patients with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. KEY MESSAGESThe SIRI is a strong and independent risk factor for adverse outcomes in patients with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.Higher SIRI is associated with a more severe disease status. The SIRI could increase the prognostic value of the GRACE risk score.PMID:35695557 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2022.2083671

Frequency of cardioversions as an additional risk factor for stroke in atrial fibrillation - the FinCV-4 study
CONCLUSIONS: Frequency of CVs for symptomatic AF episodes provides additional information on stroke risk in AF patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score 1.Key messagesThis retrospective study offers a unique opportunity to observe the natural course of AF patients with infrequent episodes of clinical arrhythmia when they were not using OAC (before introduction of CHA2DS2-VASc score).Stroke or systemic embolism rate was very low (0.08 per 100 patient-years) in patients with one CHA2DS2-VASc point who visited the emergency room for cardioversion less than once a year.Frequency of cardioversions can be used for additional risk stratif...

Correlation between dietary selenium intake and stroke in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003-2018
CONCLUSIONS: Dietary selenium had a negative and non-linear correlation with the risk of stroke in adults. The correlation varied across different population subgroups.KEY MESSAGESDietary selenium had a negative and non-linear correlation with the risk of stroke in adults.Non-linear negative correlation trends were observed in subpopulations of females, age <60 years, poverty-income ratio <2.14, overweight and obesity, hypertension, non-diabetes, and non-anaemia.Dietary selenium intake of approximately 105 μg per day has an optimum effect on stroke.PMID:35594240 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2022.2058079
