Clinical profile and risk factors of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) in Sudan: A multicenter cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis is mainly a disease of child-bearing women, although significant proportions of men were affected. Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis presents in a wide variety of signs and symptoms.PMID:36536723 | PMC:PMC9758368 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104891

Dysphagia and associated factors among patients with acute ischemic stroke in Vietnam
CONCLUSION: Our study showed that the prevalence of dysphagia is high among patients with acute ischemic stroke in Vietnam. Intervention solutions should focus more on patient groups of higher age group, brainstem stroke, communication disorder and facial paralysis.PMID:36536715 | PMC:PMC9758358 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104887

The relationship between glucose intolerance status and risk of hospitalization during two decades of follow-up: Tehran lipid and glucose study
CONCLUSION: Pre-diabetes, NDM, and KDM were associated with increased hospitalization rates during long-term follow-up. Interventions such as lifestyle modification or pharmacological therapies aiming to slow down the pre-diabetes and fair control of diabetes might potentially decrease the rate of hospitalization.Key messagesNDM and KDM status both increased rate of all-cause hospitalization.CVD and T2DM complication were the most common cause of hospitalization among patients with diabetes.Hospitalization due to recurrent CHD was significantly higher in men with diabetes than their female counterparts.PMID:36382719 | DOI:...

Successful use of therapeutic anticoagulation therapy in two patients with moderate stroke from the second day of onset: A case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: As a result of this case report, clinical improvement has not been associated with hemorrhagic sequelae of anticoagulant administration on the first day. At this point, we recommend conducting a trial to study the effect of early application of anticoagulants from the first day on clinical outcome, recurrence, and hemorrhagic transfusion of stroke.PMID:36268411 | PMC:PMC9577847 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104726

Neurophysiology tools to lower the stroke onset to treatment time during the golden hour: microwaves, bioelectrical impedance and near infrared spectroscopy
Ann Med. 2022 Dec;54(1):2658-2671. doi: 10.1080/07853890.2022.2124448.ABSTRACTReperfusion therapy administration timing in acute ischaemic stroke is the main determinant of patients' mortality and long-term disability. Indeed, the first hour from the stroke onset is defined the "golden hour", in which the treatment has the highest efficacy and lowest side effects. Delayed ambulance transport, inappropriate triage and difficulty in accessing CT scans lead to delayed onset to treatment time (OTT) in clinical practice. To date brain CT scan is needed to rule out intracranial haemorrhage, which is a major contraindication to t...

Effectiveness of endovascular repair versus open surgery for the treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysm: A systematic review and meta analysis
CONCLUSION: Current evidence supports the use of endovascular repair over open surgery. However, there is a need to conduct dedicated randomized controlled trials to effectively compare and determine the benefits and risk of both strategies.PMID:36147154 | PMC:PMC9486727 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104477

Malaria causing post-infectious cerebellitis, a case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: Malaria should be included as a differential diagnosis in a patient presenting with cerebellar signs as its devastating if left untreated. However, it responds well to anti-malarial regimens if started early during the course.PMID:36147173 | PMC:PMC9486712 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104462

Simultaneous acute cardio-cerebral infarction associated with isolated left ventricle non-compaction cardiomyopathy
CONCLUSION: To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the first reported case of cardiocerebral infraction (CCI) in the setting of non-compaction left ventricle. Early and precise diagnosis is critical to the successful management of these conditions.PMID:36045823 | PMC:PMC9422203 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104172
