Positive Association between EDN1 rs5370 (Lys198Asn) Polymorphism and Large Artery Stroke in a Ukrainian Population.
In this study, the analysis of a possible association between EDN1 rs5370 and EDNRA rs5335 gene polymorphisms and the risk of large artery stroke (LAS) in a Ukrainian population was conducted. 200 LAS patients and 200 unrelated controls were enrolled in a case-control study. The polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method (PCR-RFLP) was used for SNP genotyping. Our results revealed that EDN1 rs5370 polymorphism was associated with LAS development both before and after adjustment for atherosclerosis risk factors (sex, age, body mass index, arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and sm...

Severity of Vitamin D Deficiency Predicts Mortality in Ischemic Stroke Patients.
Conclusions: Severe VD deficiency is an emerging, strong negative predictor for survival after IS, independent of age and functional status. VD supplementation in IS survivals may be considered due to high prevalence of its deficiency. However, it is uncertain whether it will improve their survival. PMID: 31191749 [PubMed - in process]

Association between MicroRNA-4669 Polymorphism and Ischemic Stroke in a Korean Population.
In this study, we investigated the associations between SNPs in miRNAs and IS including rs2910164, rs11614913, and rs3746444 in a Korean population. For a pilot study, we selected 19 SNPs in pre-miRNA region (including mature miRNA region) and genotyped in 140 IS patients and 240 control subjects using the Fluidigm Dynamic Array. Our pilot study showed a weak association of rs79402775 in miRNA-933 (p = 0.044) and a relatively strong association of rs35196866 in miRNA-4669 (p = 0.016) with IS. From the pilot study, we selected rs79402775, rs35196866, and rs7202008 (miRNA-2117; p = 0.055) as candidate miRNA SNPs on IS and fu...

Genetic Polymorphisms Associated with Thrombotic Disease Comparison of Two Territories: Myocardial Infarction and Ischemic Stroke.
Conclusions: The Thr325Ile polymorphism, but no Ala147Thr polymorphism, represents an independent risk factor for STEMI in the young Mexican population. PMID: 31781299 [PubMed - in process]

Recanalization Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke Caused by Large-Artery Occlusion in the Elderly: A Comparative Analysis of "the Elderly" and "the Very Elderly"
CONCLUSION: Recanalization treatment of LAO is more effective in elderly patients compared with very elderly patients, while the safety of recanalization treatment is comparable between these two groups.PMID:34659589 | PMC:PMC8514933 | DOI:10.1155/2021/3579074

Role of N6-methyladenosine modification in pathogenesis of ischemic stroke
Expert Rev Mol Diagn. 2022 Mar 2. doi: 10.1080/14737159.2022.2049246. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: N6-Methyladenosine (m6A), the most common and reversible mRNA modification, has attracted considerable attention recently, and accumulating evidence indicates it has an important role in the progression of ischemic stroke (IS).AREAS COVERED: We first reviewed m6A methylation modification enzymes, including m6A methyltransferases (METTL3, METTL14, and WTAP), demethylases (FTO and ALKBH5), m6A-binding proteins (YTH domain containing 1/2 [YTHDC1/2], YTHDF1/2/3, and insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein...

Construction of a Joint Prediction Model for the Occurrence of Ischemic Stroke and Acute Myocardial Infarction Based on Bioinformatic Analysis
Dis Markers. 2022 Apr 4;2022:5967131. doi: 10.1155/2022/5967131. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke (IS) has imposed significant threat to both middle-aged and elderly people worldwide. Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a rare but serious complication following IS, which can further increase patient disability and mortality rates. With the development of intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular treatment, the prognosis of IS has been greatly improved. However, the pathogenesis of IS complicated with AMI is still unclear. To fill this gap, this work uses bioinformatic analysis, where IS and AMI datasets were combi...

Novel POLG mutation in a patient with sensory ataxia, neuropathy, ophthalmoparesis and stroke
Conclusions The novel mutation contributes to the expanding spectrum of disease-causing mutations. A definitive diagnosis can benefit our patient and also the relatives by avoiding sodium valproate induced liver toxicity in POLG patients and also the heterozygotes.
