Understanding HAT1: A Comprehensive Review of Noncanonical Roles and Connection with Disease
Genes (Basel). 2023 Apr 14;14(4):915. doi: 10.3390/genes14040915.ABSTRACTHistone acetylation plays a vital role in organizing chromatin, regulating gene expression and controlling the cell cycle. The first histone acetyltransferase to be identified was histone acetyltransferase 1 (HAT1), but it remains one of the least understood acetyltransferases. HAT1 catalyzes the acetylation of newly synthesized H4 and, to a lesser extent, H2A in the cytoplasm. However, 20 min after assembly, histones lose acetylation marks. Moreover, new noncanonical functions have been described for HAT1, revealing its complexity and complicating th...

Carbon dioxide flushing versus saline flushing of thoracic aortic stents (INTERCEPTevar): protocol for a multicentre pilot randomised controlled trial
Introduction Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) carries a 3%–6.1% stroke risk, including risk of ‘silent’ cerebral infarction (SCI). Stent-grafts are manufactured in room air and retain air. Instructions for use recommend saline flushing to ‘de-air’ the system prior to insertion, but substantial amounts of air are released when deploying them, potentially leading to downstream neuronal injury and SCI. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is more dense and more soluble in blood than air, without risk of bubble formation, so could be used in addition to saline to de-air stents. This pilot trial aims to...

Outcomes of Complex Endovascular Treatment of Post-Dissection Aneurysms
CONCLUSION: Complex endovascular repair of chronic post-dissection aneurysms is feasible, but is associated with high rates of re-interventions and non-trivial rates of lack of technical success. More data are needed to evaluate the long term durability of these procedures, and the utility of centralising these complex procedures.PMID:37087065 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.04.013

Lumbar Drain Use during Middle Fossa Approaches for Nonneoplastic Pathology of the Skull Base
Conclusion No difference in postoperative outcomes was observed in patients who had an intraoperative LD placed compared to those without LD. Operative times were increased in the LD cohort, but this difference was not statistically significant. Given the similar outcomes, we conclude that LD is not necessary to facilitate safe MCF for nonneoplastic skull base pathologies. Does arterial cannulation site for aortic dissection repair impact surgical outcomes?
CONCLUSIONS: This study found no statistically significant different in rates of stroke or other complications based on cannulation site. Femoral arterial cannulation thus remains a safe and efficient choice for arterial cannulation in the repair of acute type A aortic dissection.PMID:37065559 | PMC:PMC10089872 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-22-576

HMGB1, angel or devil, in ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: HMGB1 plays a complex role in cerebral infarction, which is related to not only the modification of HMGB1 and bound receptors but also different stages and subtypes of cerebral infarction. future studies on HMGB1 should investigate the spatial and temporal dynamics of HMGB1 after cerebral infarction. Moreover, future studies on HMGB1 should attempt to integrate different stages and infarct subtypes of cerebral infarction.PMID:37062906 | DOI:10.1002/brb3.2987
