Atrial fibrillation and associated outcomes in patients with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a 14-year nationwide population-based study.
CONCLUSION: In patients with ESRD undergoing dialysis, PD had lowered risks of new onset of AF compared to HD. Subsequently, these AF patients in PD group had comparable incidence of ischemic stroke but decreased incidence of hemorrhagic stroke compared to AF patients in HD group. Serum lipoprotein(a) and risk of hemorrhagic stroke among incident peritoneal dialysis patients: a large study from a single center in China.

Peritonitis affects the relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and cardiovascular events in peritoneal dialysis patients
ConclusionsPD patients with lower baseline LDL-C had a higher risk of peritonitis. The effect of LDL-C on CV events and mortality was different by the presence of peritonitis events.

Comparison of risk of stroke in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: We observed that PD patients were less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than HD patients, and the risk for ischemic stroke was significantly higher for PD patients than for HD patients among the non-Asian patients. Vitamin K antagonists for stroke prevention in hemodialysis patients with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Our meta-analysis revealed a trend for a reduction of the risk of ischemic stroke in hemodialysis patients with AF treated with VKA. The true protective effect may have been underestimated, owing to inclusion of low-risk patients not expected to benefit from anticoagulation and to suboptimal anticoagulation. However, assessment of the overall effect of VKA in hemodialysis patients should also take into account the increased risk of bleeding, in particular of hemorrhagic stroke. Whether new oral anticoagulants provide a better benefit–risk ratio in hemodialysis patients should be the subject of future trials.

Conclusion In CKD patients on PD with AF, who had similar ischaemic stroke risk as non-CKD counterparts, warfarin therapy is associated with reduction in risk of ischaemic stroke without a higher risk of ICH.

Risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis with special reference to stroke
Kim et al. determined the incidence rates of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and compared several types of events between hemodialysis (HD) patients and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients [1]. The authors handled 22,892 HD patients and 7,387 PD patients in Korea by intention-to-treat method, and median follow-up period was 21.5 months. Risk of Stroke in Long-term Dialysis Patients Compared With the General Population
Conclusions: Patients undergoing dialysis are at elevated risk of stroke. Patients undergoing PD appear to be less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than those undergoing HD. Comprehensive control of hypertension and diabetes is necessary when delivering dialysis treatment.
