Prior studies examining sex-related risk of readmission for ischemic stroke (IS) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) did not adjust for preoperative comorbidities and used small study samples that were single-center or otherwise poorly generalizable. We assessed risk of readmission for IS after CABG for females compared to males in a nationwide sample.

Meta-Analysis of Perioperative Stroke and Mortality in CABG Patients With Carotid Stenosis
Conclusions: Together, these data suggest an association between stroke and mortality in the perioperative period in patients undergoing CABG, demonstrating a need for improved monitoring, screening, and treatment of stroke before, during, and shortly after surgery.

Incidence and Risk Factors for Silent Brain Infarction After On-Pump Cardiac Surgery: A Meta-analysis and Meta-regression of 29 Prospective Cohort Studies
ConclusionFrom the meta-regression, we concluded that advanced age and diabetes were related to increased SBI incidence after on-pump cardiac surgery, while CABG procedure alone was associated with less SBI onset. Studies with more accurate diagnoses of SBI are required to add more conclusive evidence to the field.

The Impact of Cerebral Atherosclerosis According to Location on Prognosis after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Conclusions: Over 10 years of follow-up, cerebral atherosclerosis significantly associated with the development of adverse outcomes after CABG. Perioperative strokes following combined coronary artery bypass grafting and carotid endarterectomy: A nationwide perspective
Conclusion: A strong association was found to exist between perioperative stroke and in-hospital mortality and morbidity after combined CABG and CEA. CEA procedures are thought to mitigate the high stroke rate of 3-5% post-CABG, but our study found that combined procedures exhibit a similar stroke risk undercutting their effectiveness. Further investigative studies on combined CABG+CEA are needed to assess risk-stratification for better patient selection and examine other preventative strategies to minimize the risk of ischemic strokes.

Conclusions—One of 10 people with periprocedural RBIs during cardiac surgeries and invasive vascular diagnostic procedures resulted in strokes or transient ischemic attacks, which may serve as a potential surrogate marker of procedural proficiency and perhaps as a predictor of risk for periprocedural strokes.

CT perfusion in predicting the morbidity and prognosis of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.
CONCLUSION: The difference in occipital lobe rTTP on CTA perfusion may be a potential predictor of HIE. Furthermore, abnormal CT and rTTP may be used for predicting the prognosis in HIE patients. Three principal components (F1 as a reflection of CBF, F2 as reflection of TTP, F3 as a reflection of MTT) can be used to generally describe perfusion parameters. Angioinvasive Aspergillus-associated Stroke in an Immunocompetent Host Following Cardiac Surgery and ECMO
Conclusions: Ischemic infarcts in the setting of CABG or ECMO are often presumed to be thromboembolic from the heart or device, related to underlying hemodynamic instability, or due to a clinically apparent systemic infection such as endocarditis. This report suggests that invasive cerebral aspergillosis should be considered in seemingly immunocompetent patients following CABG or ECMO. The mechanism is unclear, but may be related to systemic inflammatory dysregulation resulting in increased susceptibility to uncommon pathogens.
