Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Stroke-Exploratory Analysis of the GOPCABE Trial and Methodological Considerations.
CONCLUSION:  Within recent prospective randomized multicenter trials off-pump CABG did not result in lower stroke rates. The possible intrinsic benefit of off-pump CABG may be offset by the complexity of the operative therapy as well as the multiple pathomechanisms involved in perioperative stroke. Safety of Simultaneous Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Carotid Endarterectomy Versus Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Although our results cannot rule out a treatment-group effect because of lack of power, a superiority of the synchronous combined carotid endarterectomy+CABG approach seems unlikely. Five-year follow-up of patients is still ongoing.Clinical Trial Registration—URL: https://www.controlled-trials.com. Unique identifier: ISRCTN13486906.

Plasma Metal Concentrations and Incident Coronary Heart Disease in Chinese Adults: The Dongfeng-Tongji Cohort
Conclusions: Our study suggested that incident CHD was positively associated with plasma levels of titanium and arsenic, and inversely associated with selenium. Additional research is needed to confirm these findings in other populations. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1521 Received: 22 December 2016 Revised: 17 September 2017 Accepted: 19 September 2017 Published: 19 October 2017 Address correspondence to T. Commentary: Silent brain lesions add noise to the on- versus off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting debate
The debate between on-pump (ONCABG) and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG) has waged on for more than 30  years. Early proponents favored OPCABG based on the hypothesis that removing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) from the operation would mitigate perioperative complications such as stroke. However, after 3 large randomized controlled trials (Randomized On/Off Bypass [ROOBY], Coronary Artery Bypass Surg ery Off or On Pump Revascularization Study [CORONARY], and German Off Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Elderly Patients [GOPCABE]) failed to show a difference in stroke rate between ONCABG and OPCABG,1-...

Coronary artery bypass grafting versus stent implantation in patients with chronic coronary syndrome and left main disease: insights from a register throughout Germany
ConclusionLeft main stenting is a safe and effective treatment option for CCS-patients suffering from left main coronary artery disease at reasonable economic cost.Graphic abstractCoronary artery bypass grafting versus stent implantation in patients with chronic coronary syndrome and left main disease: insights from a register throughout Germany. All cases with chronic coronary syndrome and left main stenosis treated in 2018 in Germany either with left main stenting or coronary bypass grafting were extracted from a nation-wide database. In-hospital outcomes were compared after logistic regression analysis.

PCSK9 and Cardiovascular Disease in Individuals with Moderately Decreased Kidney Function
Conclusions: Our findings reveal no relation of PCSK9 with baseline eGFR and albuminuria, but a significant association between higher PCSK9 concentrations and risk of cardiovascular disease independent of traditional risk factors including LDL-cholesterol levels.PMID:35387881 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.01230122

ICU Readmission after Cardiac Surgery —Still a Matter of Concern?
Conclusions In conclusion, readmission to the ICU after cardiac surgery is a rare complication that is still associated with excessive mortality. Establishment of an intermediate care unit proved to be an excellent means to reduce ICU stay without endangering post-surgery patients and significantly reduced the ICU readmission rate. Five-Year Outcome after Off-Pump or On-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Elderly Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: In elderly patients ≥75 years, the five-year survival rates as well as the combined outcome of death, myocardial infarction and repeat revascularization were similar after on-pump and off-pump CABG. Incomplete revascularization was associated with a lower five-year survival rate, irrespective of the type of surgery. Prognosis and Clinical Results after Coronary Artery Bypass Operation in Young Patients Aged < 45 Years: Chances and Limitations of a New Therapy Option
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1736229Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the recommended type of revascularization procedure in patients with left main or three-vessel disease and is considered an alternative when percutaneous coronary intervention is not feasible. We evaluated registry data to obtain long-term outcome data. All patients ≤45 years in whom CABG was performed between 2009 and 2019 were selected from the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW, Germany. Cox regression analysis was applied to estimate the incidence risk of events after surgery.A total of 209 patients (81.8% male) were included. Mean ...

Impact of postoperative acute kidney injury on short-term outcomes of patients with Bentall surgery for any reason
CONCLUSION: Patients undergoing Bentall surgery who postoperatively developed AKI showed significantly higher morbidity and mortality. AKI points out to be an early predictor for poor outcomes. Thus, as a consequence, patients with postoperatively developed AKI should be highly monitored for immediate intervention.PMID:35099323 | DOI:10.1177/02676591211073865
