Hyperbaric Oxygen Preconditioning Attenuates Hemorrhagic Transformation through Increasing PPARγ in Hyperglycemic MCAO Rats.
Abstract Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning (HBO-PC) has been demonstrated to attenuate hemorrhagic transformation (HT) after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in hyperglycemic rats. However, the mechanisms remain to be illustrated. Recently, HBO-PC has been shown to activate peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARγ) by increasing 15d-PGJ2 in primary cultured neurons. Association Between Arterial Hyperoxia and Outcome in Subsets of Critical Illness: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Meta-Regression of Cohort Studies*
Conclusions: In various subsets of critically ill patients, arterial hyperoxia was associated with poor hospital outcome. Considering the substantial heterogeneity of included studies and the lack of a clinical definition, more evidence is needed to provide optimal oxygen targets to critical care physicians.

Cerebral air embolism during CT-guided lung biopsy
A patient with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, on the waiting list for liver transplantation, presented with lung nodule during initial evaluation. A CT-guided core needle lung biopsy under general anaesthesia was performed. Pneumothorax (figure 1) and a large amount of gas within the left ventricle (figure 2) were identified during the procedure. The cardiac effects of hyperbaric oxygen at 243 kPa using inchamber echocardiography.

Hyperbaric oxygen can induce neuroplasticity and improve cognitive functions of patients suffering from anoxic brain damage.

Seizures during hyperbaric oxygen therapy: retrospective analysis of 62,614 treatment sessions.
CONCLUSIONS: Seizures induced by oxygen toxicity during HBO₂ therapy are extremely rare. Moreover, in relation to oxygen-induced seizures, HBO₂therapy can be considered safe for patients suffering with chronic neurological disorders except for uncontrolled epilepsy.
