AbstractThe search of effective anti-stroke neuroprotectors requires various stroke models adequate for different aspects of the ischemic processes. The photothrombotic stroke model is particularly suitable for the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, neuroprotection, and neuroregeneration. Aneurysm location and clipping versus coiling for development of secondary normal-pressure hydrocephalus after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: Japanese Stroke DataBank.
CONCLUSIONS Patients with low-grade SAH caused by a ruptured MCA aneurysm had a low risk for the development of sNPH. In contrast, patients with high-grade SAH caused by a ruptured ACA aneurysm had a higher risk for sNPH. Endovascular coiling might confer a lower risk of developing sNPH than microsurgical clipping. Alteplase Reduces Downstream Microvascular Thrombosis and Improves the Benefit of Large Artery Recanalization in Stroke Basic Sciences
Conclusions— Our data demonstrate that DMT is an early phenomenon initiated before recanalization. We further show that alteplase-dependent maintenance of downstream perfusion during MCAO improves acute ischemic stroke outcome through a fibrinogen-dependent platelet aggregation reduction. Our results indicate that early targeting of DMT represents a therapeutic strategy to improve the benefit of large artery recanalization in acute ischemic stroke.

Molecular imaging of inflammation in the brain-heart axis after ischemic stroke: comparison of two murine stroke models.
Conclusions: In contrast to topical ET-1 application after craniotomy, the intravascular MCAo model enables imaging studies of brain-heart networking after stroke, which evokes elevated TSPO PET signal in both brain and heart. The severity of cerebral ischemic damage may contribute to cardiac dysfunction via systemic inflammatory networking.

Catheter based selective hypothermia reduces stroke volume during focal cerebral ischemia in swine
Conclusions Selective moderate hypothermia was rapidly induced using endovascular techniques in a clinically realistic swine stroke model. A significant reduction in stroke volume on MRI was observed. Endovascular selective hypothermia can provide neuroprotection within time frames relevant to acute ischemic stroke treatment.

Stroke treated at a neurosurgical ward: a cohort study
ConclusionsPatients with stroke who were admitted to a neurosurgical ward had a low mortality rate during the acute treatment, and at 4 years post‐stroke, the survival rate was 75%. The level of disability and dependence at discharge was high, but at 4 years post‐stroke, there was both measurable and self‐perceived improvement in function.

Effect of Emergency Medical Services Use on Hospital Outcomes of Acute Hemorrhagic Stroke.
