Recommendations on the use of computed tomography in the stroke code: Consensus document SENR, SERAU, GEECV-SEN, SERAM
Radiologia (Engl Ed). 2023 Mar-Apr;65(2):180-191. doi: 10.1016/j.rxeng.2022.11.006. Epub 2023 Mar 29.ABSTRACTThe Spanish Society of Emergency Radiology (SERAU), the Spanish Society of Neuroradiology (SENR), the Spanish Society of Neurology through its Cerebrovascular Diseases Study Group (GEECV-SEN) and the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM) have met to draft this consensus document that will review the use of computed tomography in the stroke code patients, focusing on its indications, the technique for its correct acquisition and the possible interpretation mistakes.PMID:37059583 | DOI:10.1016/j.rxeng.2022.11.006

Mechanical thrombectomy is cost-effective versus medical management alone around Europe in patients with low ASPECTS
Conclusions MT is efficient versus MM alone for patients with low ASPECTS in eight countries across Europe. Patients with a large ischemic core could be treated with MT because it is both clinically beneficial and economically sustainable.

Neurological Involvement in Primary Systemic Vasculitis
Conclusion Neurological involvement is a common complication of PSV (Table 1), and neurologists play an important role in the identification and diagnosis of PSV patients with otherwise unexplained neurological symptoms as their chief complaint. This article summarizes the neurological manifestations of PSV and hopes to improve neuroscientists' understanding of this broad range of diseases. TABLE 1 Table 1. Common CNS and PNS involvements of primary systemic vasculitis. Author Contributions SZ conceived the article and wrote the manuscript. DY and GT reviewed and edited the manuscript. All authors ...

Effectiveness and safety of rivaroxaban in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: data from a contemporary Spanish registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In this contemporary Spanish cohort of NVAF patients on rivaroxaban, patients had many comorbidities, a high thromboembolic risk and a moderate bleeding risk. Overall, rates of stroke and bleeding complications were low and similar to other previous studies. These data suggest that rivaroxaban is effective and safe in routine practice. Elite Swimmers ’ Training Patterns in the 25 Weeks Prior to Their Season’s Best Performanc Insights Into Periodization From a 20-Years Cohort
Conclusion: Progressive increases in training load, macrocycles lasting about 14–15 weeks, and substantial volume of training at intensities ≤4 mmol⋅L-1 and>6 mmol⋅L-1, were associated with peak performance in elite swimmers. Introduction To achieve the fastest competition performances, elite coaches periodise athletes’ training loads over multi-year and annual training programs (Turner, 2011; Mujika et al., 2018). Periodization is the purposeful sequencing of training units (long-, medium-, and short-term training cycles and sessions) designed to produce cumulated adaptations tha...

Extreme Heat Is Endangering America ’ s Workers —And Its Economy
This project was supported by the Pulitzer Center 7 A.M.: COPELAND FARMS—ROCHELLE, GA Just after dawn on a recent July day in Rochelle, Ga., Silvia Moreno Ayala steps into a pair of sturdy work pants, slips on a long-sleeved shirt, and slathers her face and hands with sunscreen. She drapes a flowered scarf over her wide-brimmed hat to protect her neck and back from the punishing rays of the sun. There isn’t much she can do about the humidity, however. Morning is supposed to be the coolest part of the day, but sweat is already pooling in her rubber boots. [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] ...

Effectiveness and safety of oral anticoagulants for non-valvular atrial fibrillation: a population-based cohort study in primary healthcare in Catalonia
Conclusion: Being men, a previous event and DOAC-switch posed a higher risk for all study outcomes. direct oral anticoagulants had a protective effect against cerebral bleeding in comparison to vitamin K antagonists. Adherence to direct oral anticoagulants resulted in lower risk of stroke and cerebral bleeding. We found no differences in the risk of stroke and gastrointestinal bleeding when we compared direct oral anticoagulants vs. vitamin K antagonists.

Periodontal Disease Is Associated With Increased Risk of Hypertension: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusion: Periodontal disease is significantly and positively correlated with increased risk of hypertension in Chinese population, and exact mechanisms of this association should be explored in future. Introduction Periodontal disease is a complex polymicrobial inflammation, including gingivitis and periodontitis. According to the 2015 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, the prevalence of severe chronic periodontitis in 2015 has reached 616 million (Kassebaum et al., 2017). In China, the periodontal disease standardized DALYs rate has risen from 24.7 in 1990 to 25.7 in 2013 according to the data from 2013 GBD ...

Reliability and validity of the Spanish adaptation of the Functional Independence Measure + Functional Assessment Measure
CONCLUSIONS: The internal consistency, inter-rater reliability and convergent validity of the Spanish-adapted version of the FIM+FAM Scale showed excellent reliability and validity of the adaptation, which supports its use to assess functional independence after stroke.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Availability of a valid adaptation for the evaluation of functional independence after stroke in Spanish population.PMID:37226445 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.23.07841-3
