Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Vascular Imaging During Iodinated Contrast Shortage
GE Healthcare© announced on April 19, 2022, that their main factory and distributor of iodinated contrast had experienced a temporary shutdown because of COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai, China. This, along with other supply chain issues, led to a worldwide shortage of iodinated contrast agents, Omnipaque and Visipaque. Our Comprehensive Stroke Center was confronted with the cascading effect of this iodinated contrast material shortage. We took immediate steps to revise our protocols and processes to continue to provide high-quality care to our stroke patients. A multidisciplinary working group comprised of representativ...

Economic evaluation of intravenous alteplase for stroke with the time of onset between 4.5 and 9 hours
Conclusion For patients with AIS with a time of onset between 4.5 and 9 hours, perfusion imaging-guided intravenous alteplase was likely to be cost-effective in China and was cost-effective in the US when compared with placebo.

Potential mechanisms of acupuncture in enhancing cerebral perfusion of ischemic stroke
Ischemic stroke is the predominant cause of long-term disability and death worldwide. It is attributable to the sudden interruption of regional cerebral blood flow, resulting in brain cell death and neurological impairment. Acupuncture is a widely used adjuvant treatment for ischemic stroke in China and shows promising efficacy in clinical practice. This review mainly focused on the evidence to illustrate several possible mechanisms of acupuncture therapy on cerebral perfusion in ischemic stroke. Studies have shown that acupuncture is probably effective in the enhancement of cerebral perfusion after ischemic stroke. It pro...

Biopharmaceutical, preclinical pharmacokinetic and pharmaco-dynamic investigations of an orally administered novel 3-nbutylphthalide prodrug for ischemic stroke treatment
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2022 Oct 19:106308. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2022.106308. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke (IS) has been contributing in leading causes of disability and death worldwide and the cases are still increasing. In China, naturally sourced compound 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) is widely applied in clinical practice for IS treatment with established evidences of efficacy and safety. However, NBP is an oily liquid at room temperature and has no active brain targeting ability, quite limiting its broader application in clinical practice. Via intravenous injection (i.v.) a prodrug compound (DB1) we previously dev...

A rare cause of abdominal pain managed unconventionally: acute renal infarction caused by atrial fibrillation: a case report
ConclusionsAcute renal infarction from thromboembolism is a rare but serious complication of arterial fibrillation. More efficient and different options for intervention methods will benefit the treatment of this disease. Here, we report a combination therapeutic method that has not been used in acute renal infarction associated with arterial fibrillation, and which restored renal perfusion and prevented long-term kidney injury.

Time to Endovascular Reperfusion and Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke
ConclusionAmong patients with acute ischemic stroke in routine clinical practice, shorter time to reperfusion was associated with better outcome after endovascular therapy. Standardized workflows and training in endovascular treatment techniques should be promoted nationally to reduce in-hospital delays.

Scalp Electroacupuncture Promotes Angiogenesis after Stroke in Rats by Activation of Wnt/ < em > β < /em > -Catenin Signal Pathway
CONCLUSION: Together, our findings demonstrated a mechanism whereby scalp acupuncture led to the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, promoting angiogenetic factor expression and restoring blood perfusion in the ischemic zone.PMID:35321503 | PMC:PMC8938052 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1649605

Selection criteria for large core trials: rationale for the ANGEL-ASPECT study design
Two recently published JNIS commentaries1 2 on eligibility criteria for the clinical trials on patients with large core, acute ischemic stroke (AIS) with large vessel occlusion have caused some debate. Five trials were included.1 Our ongoing trial, ANGEL-ASPECT (NCT 04551664), which represents the only large core trial currently ongoing in the Chinese population, was not included in the discussion. One issue of the debate is the addition of CT perfusion (CTP)/diffusion-weighted image of magnetic resonance imaging (DWI-MRI) to the inclusion criteria, which only the SELECT-2 trial chose to adopt. This raised concern about wh...

Effect of Neurorepair for Motor Functional Recovery Enhanced by Total Saponins From Trillium tschonoskii Maxim. Treatment in a Rat Model of Focal Ischemia
Trillium tschonoskii Maxim. (TTM), is a perennial herb from Liliaceae, that has been widely used as a traditional Chinese medicine treating cephalgia and traumatic hemorrhage. The present work was designed to investigate whether the total saponins from Trillium tschonoskii Maxim. (TSTT) would promote brain remodeling and improve gait impairment in the chronic phase of ischemic stroke. A focal ischemic model of male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats was established by permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Six hours later, rats were intragastrically treated with TSTT (120, 60, and 30 mg/kg) and once daily up to day 30. ...
