Neurological scoring and gait kinematics to assess functional outcome in an ovine model of ischaemic stroke
ConclusionThis study developed repeatable methods to assess function in sheep using composite scoring and gait kinematics, allowing for the evaluation of deficit 3 days post-stroke. Despite utility of each method independently, there was poor association observed between gait kinematics, composite scoring, and infarct volume on PCA. This suggests that each of these measures has discreet utility for the assessment of stroke deficit, and that multimodal approaches are necessary to comprehensively characterise functional impairment.

Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure variability and association with ischemic stroke subtypes in the subacute stage
ConclusionThe results of this study indicate a discrepancy in blood pressure variability among different ischemic stroke subtypes during the subacute stage. Higher systolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure variability during the 24 h, daytime, and nighttime, and nighttime diastolic blood pressure were independent predictors for large-artery atherosclerosis stroke. Increased nighttime diastolic BPV was an independent risk factor for cardioembolic stroke.

Serum retinol-binding protein 4 in stroke patients: correlation with T helper 17/regulatory T cell imbalance and 3-year cognitive function decline
ConclusionSerum RBP4 is positively associated with a Th17/Treg cell imbalance and, more importantly, it is indicative of cognitive function decline within 3 years in stroke patients. Thus, early and timely interventions and physical rehabilitation are more necessary in stroke patients with high serum RBP4.

Assessment of Carotid Intraplaque Neovascularization Using Superb Microvascular Imaging in High Risk of Stroke Individuals: Results From a Community-Based Study
Conclusions: Moderate to marked intraplaque neovascularization detected by SMI was more likely in subjects with a history of any territory stroke or TIA or thicker plaque. This indicates a potential new role of SMI in stratifying future risk of stroke or other arterial disease complications.

Timing of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Onset for Upper Limb Function After Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Based on the FMA, rTMS seems more beneficial only when started in the first month post-stroke. Tests at the level of function are likely more sensitive to detect beneficial rTMS effects on upper limb function than tests at the level of activity. However, heterogeneities in treatment designs and outcomes are high. Future rTMS trials should include the FMA and work toward a core set of outcome measures.

This article discusses the importance of the OTs' perspectives in conducting interdisciplinary, longitudinal stroke recovery research. The challenges, strategies and recommendations for future directions of advancing the role of OTs in multidisciplinary stroke recovery research are highlighted. We use this perspective as a call to action to the stroke recovery field to incorporate OTs as members of the research team and for OTs to provide their perspectives on ongoing stroke recovery research.

Acute Neurofilament Light Chain Plasma Levels Correlate With Stroke Severity and Clinical Outcome in Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: Plasma NF-L levels, but not IL-6 and S100B, were significant predictors of clinical severity on admission and functional outcome at 3 months. Plasma NF-L is a promising biomarker of functional outcome after ischemic stroke.

Conclusions: The present study preliminarily investigated the diagnostic value of serum S1P in acute stroke. Decreased serum S1P may become a potential biomarker for early acute ischemic stroke and can indicate disease severity.

High Neutrophil –Lymphocyte Ratio Predicts Post-stroke Cognitive Impairment in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: NLR in the acute stage of ischemic stroke was independently associated with PSCI at 3 months after stroke, and high NLR was specifically associated with cognitive dysfunction in the memory and visuospatial domains. Thus, systemic inflammation may be a modifiable risk factor that may influence cognitive outcomes after stroke.
