Factors associated with stroke after COVID-19 vaccination: a statewide analysis
ConclusionConcurrent COVID-19 infection had the strongest association with early ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke after the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Although not all determinants of stroke, particularly comorbidities, were considered in this analysis, the Ad26.COV2.S vaccine was associated with a higher risk of early post-vaccination ischemic stroke than BNT162b2.

Reduced Upper Limb Recovery in Subcortical Stroke Patients With Small Prior Radiographic Stroke
Conclusions: ICARE clinical imaging revealed information useful for UE motor trial design: stratification of persons with and without prior radiographic stroke may be required in participants with subcortical stroke, the majority of motor rehabilitation trial participants. Most of the prior radiographic strokes were small and cortically-based, suggesting even minor prior brain injury remote to the acute stroke lesion may limit spontaneous and therapy-related recovery. Lesion location may be associated with response to different therapy regimens, but the effects are variable and of unclear significance.

Stress Hyperglycemia and Outcome of Non-diabetic Patients After Acute Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion: Stress hyperglycemia, measured by glucose-to-HbA1c ratio, was related to an elevated risk of stroke recurrence and all-cause death in patients with acute ischemic stroke but without diabetes.

Notification Strategy and Predictors of Outcome in Stroke Ineligible for Reperfusion Therapies
Conclusions: EMS notification is influenced by AF, stroke severity, psychiatric disease, aphasia, and residence type. Early disability depends on age, the type and severity of the stroke, and pre-stroke mRS. Predictors of disability at 1 year after stroke are age, stoke severity, mRS at discharge, and recurrent ischemic stroke. Higher NIHSS and older age are associated with higher case fatality. In patients ineligible for recanalization, EMS notification had no significant effect on outcome, regarding both disability and survival.

Time Trends and Monthly Variation in Swedish Acute Stroke Care
Conclusion: We found that month of admission and longitudinal trends both affect quality of care and survival of stroke patients in Sweden, and that the effects differ between hospital types. The observed variation suggests an opportunity to improve stroke care in Sweden. Future studies ought to focus on identifying the specific factors driving this variation, for subsequent targeting by quality improvement efforts.

Conclusions: Machine learning algorithms can be employed to develop prognostic predictive biomarkers for stroke outcomes in ischemic stroke patients, particularly in regard to identifying acute gene expression changes that occur during stroke.

Identifying Gaps and Missed Opportunities for Intravenous Thrombolytic Treatment of Inpatient Stroke
Conclusion: In our study, one in three ISC were true strokes. IVT treatment rates were low with a MTO of 1 in 6 IVT-eligible patients. The most common reason for not treating was NIHSS ≤4. Knowing predictors of true stroke and the common barriers to IVT treatment can help narrow this treatment gap.

Readmissions and Mortality During the First Year After Stroke —Data From a Population-Based Incidence Study

Stroke Care Within the COVID-19 Pandemic —Increasing Awareness of Transient and Mild Stroke Symptoms Needed
Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, resources of the healthcare system in a primary care university hospital in Germany still allowed for unchanged numbers of recanalization procedures due to ischemic stroke. However, the numbers of patients admitted to the hospital specifically due to ischemic stroke or TIA decreased, suggesting that the awareness for non-disabling stroke symptoms has to be increased.

Meta-Analysis of Dyslipidemia Management for the Prevention of Ischemic Stroke Recurrence in China
Conclusions: Effective lipid-lowering therapy could decrease the blood LDL-C level, which had a protective effect against stroke recurrence. These results support the use of predicted baseline cerebrovascular disease risk equations to inform decisions regarding blood lipid-lowering treatment in ischemic stroke patients in China.

Who Should Rather Undergo Transesophageal Echocardiography to Determine Stroke Etiology: Young or Elderly Stroke Patients?
Conclusions: TEE was highly valuable for determining stroke etiology and influenced individual secondary prevention based on available treatment guidelines and expert opinion in most cases. In young patients the impact of TEE was limited to the detection of septal anomalies. By contrast, in older patients TEE detected high numbers of complex aortic atheroma and potential indicators of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
