Association of Polyvascular Disease and Elevated Interleukin-6 With Outcomes in Acute Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack
Conclusion: PolyVD and elevated IL-6 levels are both associated with poor outcomes in patients with AIS or TIA. Moreover, the combination of them increases the efficiency of stroke risk stratification compared with when used alone. More attention and intensive treatment should be given to those patients with both PolyVD and elevated IL-6 levels.

Prevalence and Effect of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease in Stroke Patients With Aspirin Treatment Failure –A Hospital-Based Stroke Secondary Prevention Registry
Conclusions: SVD is common in stroke patients with ATF. PVWMLs and DWMLs are independently associated with functional outcomes in stroke patients with ATF. The burden of SVD should be considered in future antiplatelet strategies for stroke patients after ATF.

sTWEAK as Predictor of Stroke Recurrence in Ischemic Stroke Patients Treated With Reperfusion Therapies
Conclusions: The severity and the progression of LA are the main neuroimaging factors associated with stroke recurrence. Likewise, sTWEAK levels were independently associated to stroke recurrence, so further studies are necessary to investigate sTWEAK as a therapeutic target.

Conclusions: Our study suggests a possible association between the rs4532 and post-stroke swallowing recovery, primarily in those aged ≥65 years. Certain SNPs may lead to less favorable outcomes in the elderly. Excessive White Matter Hyperintensity Increases Susceptibility to Poor Functional Outcomes After Acute Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion: The excessive amount of uWMH burden unaccounted for by the traditional VRF profile was associated with worse post-stroke functional outcomes. Further studies are needed to evaluate a lifetime brain injury reflected in WMH unrelated to the VRF profile of a patient as an important factor for stroke recovery and a plausible indicator of brain health.

Involvement of Specialist Palliative Care in a Stroke Unit in Austria —Challenges for Families and Stroke Teams
Conclusions: Family members benefit from understandable and consistent information, emotional support, and a professional team identifying their needs. Stroke unit professionals need skills as well as knowledge and strategies in order to make decisions and provide treatment at the end-of-life, when there may be ethical or legal issues. Close cooperation with specialist palliative care services supports both treatment teams and families with communication and decision-making for patients with severe ischemic stroke.
