Kinsenoside alleviates oxidative stress-induced blood-brain barrier dysfunction via promoting Nrf2/HO-1 pathway in ischemic stroke
Eur J Pharmacol. 2023 Apr 11:175717. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175717. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn ischemic stroke usually causes blood-brain barrier (BBB) damage and excessive oxidative stress (OS) levels. Kinsenoside (KD), a major effective compound extracted in Chinese herbal medicine Anoectochilus roxburghii (Orchidaceae), has anti-OS effects. The present study focused on exploring KD's protection against OS-mediated cerebral endothelial cell damage and BBB damage within the mouse model. Intracerebroventricular administration of KD upon reperfusion after 1 h ischemia decreased infarct volumes, neurological defici...

The improvement of spatial memory deficits in APP/V717I transgenic mice by chronic anti-stroke herb treatment
In China, herbal medicine has an extensive history for the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. Clinical studies have shown that stroke patients are more likely to experience significant memory decline in comparison to their healthy counterparts. Cognition is improved in stroke patients treated with herbal medicine active components, Geniposide (GP) and Geniposide Rg1 (GRg1) (together, called TLJN). However, the effect of TLJN in Alzheimer disease remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the behavioral effect of TLJN in male and female APP/V717I transgenic (Tg) mice. We conducted two different treatment strategies: (1...

Pure mechanistic analysis of additive neuroprotective effects between baicalin and jasminoidin in ischemic stroke mice.
In this study we used transcriptome analysis to explore the pure therapeutic mechanisms of BA, JA and their combination (BJ) contributing to phenotype variation and reversal of pathological processes. Mice with middle cerebral artery obstruction were treated with BA, JA, their combination (BJ), or concha margaritifera (CM). Cerebral infarct volume was examined to determine the effect of these compounds on phenotype. Using the hippocampus microarray and ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) software, we exacted the differentially expressed genes, networks, pathways, and functions in positive-phenotype groups (BA, JA and BJ) by c...

Multimodal Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Therapeutic Intervention With Yi-nao-jie-yu Decoction in a Rat Model of Post-stroke Depression
Post-stroke depression (PSD) is the most common neuropsychiatric complication after a stroke, though its neuropathological characteristics have not been fully elucidated. Comprehensive and non-invasive magnetic resonance (MR) assessment techniques are urgently needed for current research, as diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), arterial spin labeling (ASL), and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) can allow for a comprehensive assessment of neuropathological changes in the brain. These techniques can provide information about microscopic tissue integrity, cerebral perfusion, and cerebral metabolism, and can serve as powerful t...
