Differential Effects of Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors on Cardiovascular and Renal Outcomes According to Renal Function: A Dose-Response Meta-Analysis Involving 10 Randomized Clinical Trials and 71,553 Individuals
CONCLUSION: The protective effects of SGLT2i for reducing most adverse cardiovascular and renal outcomes persisted in patients with variable degrees of renal impairment. The observed benefits such as preventing CV death, HF worsening, or stroke may be greater for patients with more severe CKD. The evaluation of new biomarkers in a case of MELAS
The aim of our study is to evaluate the utility of new biomarkers, FGF-21 and GDF-15, as well as to confirm the efficacy of L-arginine and sodium pyruvate administration in a patient with mitochondrial encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS). The patient was 60 years old women with mtT3271C mutation who developed abrupt onset of aphasia and stroke-like episodes. Muscle pathology and laboratory findings were compatible with MELAS. She was treated with L-arginine and sodium pyruvates, but her condition got worsen and died in 2 years.

Canagliflozin for Primary and Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Events: Results From the CANVAS Program (Canagliflozin Cardiovascular Assessment Study).
CONCLUSIONS : Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and prior cardiovascular events had higher rates of cardiovascular outcomes compared with the primary prevention patients. Canagliflozin reduced cardiovascular and renal outcomes with no statistical evidence of heterogeneity of the treatment effect across the primary and secondary prevention groups. Cardiac output changes after osmotic therapy in neurosurgical and neurocritical care patients: A systematic review of the clinical literature
ConclusionsMannitol or HTS administration seems to induce an enhancement of cardiac performance; being more prominent after HTS infusion. This effect combined with mannitol‐induced enhancement of diuresis and HTS‐promoted increase of plasma sodium concentration could partially explain the effects of osmotherapy on cerebral hemodynamics.

Condition-specific transcriptional regulation of neuronal ion channel genes in brain ischemia.
The objective of this study is to identify ion channel genes that are differentially regulated under different brain ischemic conditions, as a mean to identify those ion channels that are associated with ischemic brain injury and ischemic tolerance.
