Predicting the risk of stroke in patients with late-onset epilepsy: A machine learning approach
CONCLUSION: The stroke risk in patients with epilepsy was relatively high and could be predicted based on comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart failure, and alcohol dependence. Comparative risks of bleeding, ischemic stroke and mortality with direct oral anticoagulants versus phenprocoumon in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsWith rivaroxaban, no significant differences were observed compared to phenprocoumon with regard to hospitalized bleedings or ischemic strokes. Dabigatran was associated with fewer bleedings and a similar risk of ischemic strokes compared to phenprocoumon. Apixaban was also associated with fewer bleedings but was unexpectedly associated with more ischemic strokes, possibly reflecting selective prescribing. The association of rivaroxaban with higher all-cause mortality unrelated to bleedings or strokes has been described previously but remains to be explained.

Uptake in antithrombotic treatment and its association with stroke incidence in atrial fibrillation: insights from a large German claims database
ConclusionBetween 2011 and 2016, the use of guideline-conform antithrombotic therapy in Germany has significantly increased. This was associated with a significant decline in strokes without an increased incidence of bleeding complications.

Effectiveness of AbobotulinumtoxinA in Post-stroke Upper Limb Spasticity in Relation to Timing of Treatment
Conclusions: In this observational, routine-practice study, patients in all groups displayed a benefit from abobotulinumtoxinA treatment, supporting the effectiveness of treatment for patients at various disease stages. Although the data revealed some trends in favor of early vs. late treatment, we did not find strong evidence for a significant benefit of early vs. late start of treatment in terms of reduction in MAS scores.

Comparison between chest pain units and stroke units : Essential components of the vascular emergency care system: comparison of structure, certification process, quality benchmarking and reimbursement.
CONCLUSION: The well-established CPU concept could additionally benefit from a superordinate quality control. Adequate quality benchmarking appears to be fundamental for gap analyses and for the establishment of a separate remuneration structure. In this respect the German Society for Cardiology as the certifying institution is required to establish an appropriate mechanism within the framework of regular updates of criteria.

Acute Endovascular Stroke Treatment in Germany in 2019
ConclusionThe analysis represents the largest documented cohort of acute stroke patients treated by thrombectomy. The documentation allows for a detailed evaluation of procedural, clinical, logistic and radiation exposure data and might be used for monitoring the quality of the treatment on a nationwide scale.

Outcome of Stroke Patients with Unknown Onset and Unknown Time Last Known Well Undergoing Endovascular Therapy
ConclusionThe LKWu patients had a similar outcome after ET as KO and LKWk patients after adjusting for confounders. Thus, ET should not be withheld if the time last known well is unknown. Instead, LKWu patients may be selected for ET using the same criteria as in LKWk patients.
