C-Reactive Protein, but not Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels, Associate with Coronary Atheroma Regression and Cardiovascular Events Following Maximally Intensive Statin Therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: Following 24 months of potent statin therapy, on-treatment CRP levels associated with MACE. Inflammation may be an important driver of residual cardiovascular risk in patients with coronary artery disease despite aggressive statin therapy. Coronary atheroma volume and cardiovascular events during maximally intensive statin therapy
Conclusion Following 2 years of high-intensity statin therapy, a baseline coronary atheroma volume predicted MACE, despite the achievement of very low on-treatment LDL-C levels.

A Non-Epileptiform Event in the Course of rTMS: A Case for Close Physician Monitoring
We present the following case to demonstrate the importance of having physician supervision of patients undergoing repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatments. The patient was a married 60-year-old male with a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder who had continuous symptoms of depression since the early 1980s despite receiving at least 7 adequate antidepressant treatments. The patient had several comorbid medical conditions. The patient did not have any previous history of seizure, stroke, an abnormal EEG, head injury, neurosurgical procedure, implanted devices, frequen...

Early High-Dose Rosuvastatin for Contrast-Induced Nephropathy Prevention in Acute Coronary Syndrome Results From the PRATO-ACS Study (Protective Effect of Rosuvastatin and Antiplatelet Therapy On Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury and Myocardial Damage in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome)
ConclusionsHigh-dose rosuvastatin given on admission to statin-naïve patients with ACS who are scheduled for an early invasive procedure can prevent CI-AKI and improve short-term clinical outcome. (Statin Contrast Induced Nephropathy Prevention [PRATO-ACS]; NCT01185938)

Impact of switching treatment from rosuvastatin to atorvastatin on rates of cardiovascular events.
CONCLUSIONS: This study found that switching from rosuvastatin to atorvastatin led to fewer patients attaining LDL-C goal and a greater risk for MACE. PMID: 24417785 [PubMed - in process]

Design of the Rosuvastatin Pretreatment to Reduce Embolization during Carotid Artery Stenting trial
ConclusionIn conclusion, with the Rosuvastatin Pretreatment to Reduce Embolization during Carotid Artery Stenting trial, we want to evaluate whether a high dose of rosuvastatin for 6 weeks before CAS in asymptomatic patients with severe carotid stenosis is able to reduce the rate of plaque embolization during the procedure, thus suggesting a possible reduction in cerebral ischemic complications.

Rosuvastatin Improves Plaque Morphology in Cerebral Embolism Patients with Normal Low-Density Lipoprotein and Severe Aortic Arch Plaque
The effect of rosuvastatin was investigated on complicated aortic arch plaque (CAP) morphology and lipid profiles in acute cerebral embolism (CE) patients with normal low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c) levels. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) studies were performed in 56 consecutive CE patients with LDL-c less than 140 mg/dL who were not taking lipid-lowering agents at baseline. CAP observed by TEE was defined as the presence of greater than 4-mm diameter, ulcerated, or mobile aortic plaque. Patients were divided into those with CAP versus without CAP (group A, n = 24, age 69 ± 8 years) and without CA...
