Early Stroke Prediction Methods for Prevention of Strokes
Behav Neurol. 2022 Apr 11;2022:7725597. doi: 10.1155/2022/7725597. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe emergence of the latest technologies gives rise to the usage of noninvasive techniques for assisting health-care systems. Amongst the four major cardiovascular diseases, stroke is one of the most dangerous and life-threatening disease, but the life of a patient can be saved if the stroke is detected during early stage. The literature reveals that the patients always experience ministrokes which are also known as transient ischemic attacks (TIA) before experiencing the actual attack of the stroke. Most of the literature work is b...

Challenges and Opportunities in Stroke Nursing Research: Global Views From a Panel of Nurse Researchers
This article reflects panel insights on challenges and opportunities for nurse-led stroke research. DISCUSSION: The research challenges discussed include nursing independence, the processes of informed consent and randomization process, obtaining adequate independent funding, recruiting research subjects, and working with vulnerable groups. The major opportunities to leverage and improve stroke nursing research include facilitating the nurse investigator role, information digitalization, improving health literacy, and collaboration between nurse researchers. SUMMARY: We are living in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and amb...

Needle Electromyography in the Acute Phase of Stroke: Correlation With Severity and Muscle Strength: Preliminary Findings
Conclusion: It was concluded that the main EMG findings in the acute phase of stroke were the presence of the denervation process and polyphasic motor unit potentials. These changes in EMG were correlated with stroke severity and lower muscle strength.

Using Multiple Logistic Regression to Determine Factors Affecting Delaying Hospital Arrival of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions: Results showed that most of the patients had a considerable delay in arriving at the hospital in ≤ 4.5 hours. Thus, providing health promotion strategies to improve society awareness of early symptoms of stroke, training of local physicians about the importance of early arrival of stroke patients, and more extended ambulance services in all cities and rural areas are necessary for better management of acute stroke patients in this area.

Association of Paraoxonase-2 (C1053G) Gene Polymorphism with the Expression of Paraoxonase-2 Gene in Patients of Ischemic Stroke & #8211; A Pilot Study in Indian Population
Conclusion: Down-regulated Paraoxonase-2 gene expression, as evidenced by low mRNA levels in GG genotype may be one of the contributory factors in the progression of ischemic stroke.

Eye signs in stroke
Rajeshwar Sahonta, Ivy Sebastian, Sanjit Aaron, Appaswamy T Prabakhar, Anupriya Arthur, Jeyaraj D PandianAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(8):94-100 A large part of the central nervous system is involved in the normal functioning of the vision, and hence vision can be affected in a stroke patient. Transient visual symptoms can likewise be a harbinger of stroke and prompt rapid evaluation for the prevention of recurrent stroke. A carotid artery disease can manifest as transient monocular visual loss (TMVL), central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), anterior ischemic optic neuropathy or ocular ischemic syndrome (...

An MRI based ischemic stroke classification & #8211; A mechanism oriented approach
James Jose, Joe JamesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(6):1019-1028 Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project and Trial of Org 10172 in acute stroke treatment are the commonly used ischemic stroke classification systems at present. However, they underutilize the newer imaging technologies. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) of the brain can detect the site and extent of infarcts accurately. From the MRI patterns, the mechanisms of ischemic stroke can be inferred. We propose to classify ischemic infarcts into the following types based on their DW-MRI appearance: cortical territorial infarcts, str...

Trends in deaths and disability-adjusted life-years of stroke attributable to high body-mass index worldwide, 1990 –2019
ConclusionA range of indicators for the global burden of stroke attributable to HBMI have been on the rise for the past three decades. Tremendous efforts worldwide should be in place to control and treat stroke attributable to HBMI, especially in regions with high-middle and middle SDIs and among middle-aged and aged populations.

WHO Systematic Assessment of Rehabilitation Situation (STARS): A systematic review on the status of stroke rehabilitation in India
AbstractPurpose of reviewTo provide a 'Systematic Assessment of the Rehabilitation Situation' (STARS) on stroke rehabilitation in India in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) STARS guidelines. Understanding the current status will help in planning of future policy and development activities.Recent FindingsThe available stroke rehabilitation data from India is deficient. While the incidence of stroke is 33 to 295.9 per year per 100,000 people (in a country of 1.2 billion), there are about 1000 physiatrists and only 150 designated rehabilitation facilities. Among them almost 40% patients are moderate to sever...

Acute ‐onset Restless legs syndrome in acute neurological conditions—a prospective study on patients with the Guillain‐Barre syndrome and acute stroke
ConclusionThis is the first study showing that acute‐onset RLS is common, affecting nearly 25% of patients with GBS and 10% patients with acute stroke. Recognizing and treating it can majorly contribute toward symptom relief and early improvement in the quality of life for this population.

Acute ischemic stroke thrombolysis with tenecteplase: An institutional experience from South India
Conclusion: This study confirms the efficacy and safety of tenecteplase for stroke thrombolysis in our clinical setting. Tenecteplase appears to be a suitable option for stroke thrombolysis in resource-limited settings, considering its cost-effectiveness, and ease of administration.
