Associations between Ambient Fine Particulate Oxidative Potential and Cardiorespiratory Emergency Department Visits
Conclusions:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Alison Wrenne was making waffles for her two young children one morning when abdominal pain forced her to the floor. A neighbor who is a physician assistant urged her to go to the emergency room.
Wrong decision, according to her health insurer. Wrenne was diagnosed with a ruptured ovarian cyst, but Anthem said that wasn't an emergency and stuck her with a $4,110 bill.
"How are you supposed to know that?" said the 34-year-old from Lexington, Kentucky. "I'm not a doctor ... that's what the emergency room is for."

Quality of Care Indicators in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD): Influenza Vaccination and Routine Eye Examination Are Associated with Outpatient Utilization but Not Acute Hospital Care, Whereas Comorbidity Indexes Are Strongly Associated with Both
In conclusion, outpatient-based candidate quality indicators of care examined (influenza vaccination and eye examination), were associated with increased outpatient utilization, but not acute visits or hospitalizations. Co-morbidity indexes have significant confounding effects on outpatient and hospital utilization. Administrative data based quality indicators of care such as influenza vaccination, as well as SCD specific comorbidity indexes warrant further studies as these may help better understand optimal allocation of health care resources for patients with SCD.DisclosuresNo relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Collectivism Is Associated With Greater Neurocognitive Fluency in Older Adults
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of self-construal on neurocognitive functions in older adults. A total of 86 community-dwelling older adults 60 years and older were assessed with three common self-report measures of self-construal along individualism and collectivism (IC). A cognitive battery was administered to assess verbal and non-verbal fluency abilities. Natural Products from Mediterranean Diet: From anti-hyperlipidemic Agents to Dietary Epigenetic Modulators.
CONCLUSION: Many of the natural products found in Mediterranean diet contribute in the treatment of hyperlipidemia, however the effects seem to be dose and/or consumption frequency related, which highlights the fact that a healthy diet can only be effective in reversing disease markers if it is consistent and within the frame of a healthy life style.

Conclusion: This represents the largest GWAS meta-analysis conducted to date associating SNPs to VTE in children and adolescents treated on childhood ALL protocols. Validation of these findings is needed and may then lead to patient stratification for VTE preventive interventions. As VTE hemostasis involves multiple pathways, a more powerful GWAS is needed to detect combination of variants associated with VTE.
