Prediction of death after endovascular thrombectomy in the extended window: a secondary analysis of DEFUSE 3 "
Conclusions Despite selective inclusion criteria and overwhelming benefit for EVT, a substantial number of EVT patients in DEFUSE 3 died. The preprocedural variables age, NIHSS, wake-up stroke, and diabetes may predict this risk. Our predictive score provides a basis for future research to determine which factors influence lethal outcome after EVT.

Myocardial Infarction, Stroke, and All-Cause Mortality According to Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Level in the Elderly, a Nationwide Study
CONCLUSION: Among the elderly, lower LDL-C was associated with decreased risks of MI and stroke. Lower LDL-C achieved by statins in the elderly was associated with a decreased risk of all-cause death during follow-up, suggesting that LDL-C paradox for the premature death risk in the elderly should not be applied to statin users. Conclusions Smoke-free laws and substantially increased tobacco taxation appear to be markedly potent population measures to avert future cardiovascular deaths in India. Life‐threatening coronary disease is prevalent in patients with stenosing carotid artery disease
ConclusionsEndarterectomized carotid patients have a high risk of acute myocardial infarction and death, and need an intensified cardiovascular disease‐risk‐lowering treatment. Although asymptomatic, the evaluation of prognostically significant myocardial ischemia should be considered in these high‐risk patients. Eventually, a clinical trial is needed to address whether carotid patients would benefit from early intervention.

Adverse effects of statin therapy: perception vs. the evidence – focus on glucose homeostasis, cognitive, renal and hepatic function, haemorrhagic stroke and cataract
ConclusionLong-term statin treatment is remarkably safe with a low risk of clinically relevant adverse effects as defined above; statin-associated muscle symptoms were discussed in a previous Consensus Statement. Importantly, the established cardiovascular benefits of statin therapy far outweigh the risk of adverse effects.

Stroke in the patient with diabetes (Part 2) -Prevention and the effects of glucose lowering therapies
There is a higher incidence of stroke in both the type 2 diabetic and the non-diabetic insulin resistant patient which is accompanied by higher morbidity and mortality. Stroke primary prevention can be achieved by controlling atrial fibrillation and hypertension, and the utilization of statins and anticoagulant therapies. Utilizing pioglitazone and GLP-1 receptor agonists reduce the risk of stroke while the utilization of metformin, α-glucosidase inhibitors, DPP-4 and SGLT-2 inhibitors have no effect.
