The mechanism of taurine protection against endoplasmic reticulum stress in an animal stroke model of cerebral artery occlusion and stroke-related conditions in primary neuronal cell culture.
In this study, we employed hypoxia/reoxygenation conditions for primary cortical neuronal cell cultures as an in vitro model of stroke as well as the in vivo model of rat focal middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Our data showed that when primary neuronal cultures were first subjected to hypoxic conditions (0.3%, 24 h) followed by reoxygenation (21%, 24-48 h), the cell viability was greatly reduced. In the animal model of stroke (MCAO), we found that 2 h ischemia followed by 4 days reperfusion resulted in an infarct of 47.42 ± 9.86% in sections 6 mm from the frontal pole. Using taurine greatly increased cell viabilit...

Integrated Microarray Analysis to Identify Genes and Small-Molecule Drugs Associated with Stroke Progression
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Sep 1;2022:7634509. doi: 10.1155/2022/7634509. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTSeveral blood biomarkers are now considered increasingly important for stratifying risk, monitoring disease progression, and evaluating the response to therapy in ischemic stroke. The purpose of the present study was to identify the key genes associated with ischemic stroke progression and elucidate the potential therapeutic small molecules. Microarray datasets related to stroke for GSE58294, GSE22255, and GSE16561 were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEG...

Epidemiology of stroke in Finnish patients with Huntington's disease
ConclusionCerebrovascular disease is as common in patients with HD as in the general population, but minor cerebrovascular events and vascular risk factors may remain unrecognized. Genetic burden of the HTT mutation does not appear to increase the risk of stroke.

Genetic analysis of genes causing hypertension and stroke in spontaneously hypertensive rats: Gene expression profiles in the kidneys.
Abstract Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and stroke-prone SHRs (SHRSP) are frequently used as models not only of essential hypertension and stroke, but also of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats are normally used as controls in these studies. In the present study, we aimed to identify the genes causing hypertension and stroke, as well as the genes involved in ADHD using these rats. We previously analyzed gene expression profiles in the adrenal glands and brain. Since the kidneys can directly influence the functions of the cardiovascular, endocrine and sy...

Analysis of psychiatric consultations in the department of neurology and stroke unit: diagnosis and therapy
CONCLUSIONS: Patients in the department of neurology and stroke unit underwent a psychiatric consultation most frequently. Optimizing the care of aneurological patient is related to close cooperation of a neurologist and a psychiatrist, as well as developing and updating common positions for the management of selected disease entities.PMID:34997738 | DOI:10.12740/PP/OnlineFirst/116320
