Impact of age on characteristics, performance measures and outcomes of inpatients for heart failure in Beijing, China
ConclusionsHF patients aged ≥75 years had distinct clinical profiles, received worse in-hospital therapies and experienced higher in-hospital and 1 year mortality.

Ischemic strokes in COVID-19: risk factors, obesity paradox, and distinction between trigger and causal association
ConclusionOur stroke occurrence rate is consistent with other population-based reports (range 0.34–2.7%). Prespecified peculiar clinical and radiological features allow the distinction between “IS caused by COVID-19” and “IS triggered by COVID-19.” Clinical history of vascular diseases and risk factors is crucial in determining the risk of IS in patients with COVID-19. However, the protective effect of a BMI > 30 kg/m2 seems to suggest an obesity paradox.

Small dense LDL cholesterol and ischemic stroke
Background and Aims: For decades it has been suggested that small dense low-density lipoprotein (sdLDL) may be particularly atherogenic. High levels of sdLDL are associated with an increased risk of ischemic heart disease; however, the association of sdLDL with ischemic stroke has not been explored in a large prospective study on the general population. We tested the hypothesis that high sdLDL cholesterol levels are associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke.

Is Improving Educational Attainment Key to Reducing the Burden Because of Cardiovascular Diseases?
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) impose a substantial global public health burden, accounting for significant mortality and disability worldwide, particularly because of conditions like coronary heart disease and stroke. The economic consequences of CVDs, including healthcare expenses, decreased productivity, and diminished quality of life, further contribute to this burden. Lifestyle factors such as unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption are closely associated with CVDs.

The role of atherogenic dyslipidemia, endothelial dysfunction and systemic inflammation in the development of vascular complications in patients with NAFLD
Background and Aims: Patients with NAFLD are at high risk of coronary heart disease and stroke, but the mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Aim is to determine the relationship between atherogenic dyslipidemia, systemic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction as causes of cardiovascular complications in patients with NAFLD.

Protective effect of vaccination on the risk of cardiovascular disease after SARS-CoV-2 infection
ConclusionAlthough COVID-19 increased the CVD risk, the inverse association in the risk of CVDs according to vaccine doses was significant in a dose –response manner. Our findings suggest that ≥ second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine prevent the risk of CVDs after SARS-CoV-2 infection.Graphical abstractIn 2,146,130 infected adults ( ≥ 20 years), the inverse association in the short-term risk of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease and stroke, according to vaccine doses received was significant in a dose–response manner.

A higher probability of subsequent stroke and ischemic heart disease in migraine patients: a longitudinal follow-up study in Korea
ConclusionsOur longitudinal follow-up study demonstrated a significant association between the presence of migraine and the development of stroke and ischemic heart disease in Korea, even after adjusting for cardiovascular risk factors.

E-261 Variability of response on prophylactic prasugrel for endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms: clinical implications
ConclusionIn the neurointerventional field, high BMI and prior use of antithrombotic agents were related to HTPR, and low BMI was associated with LTPR on prophylactic prasugrel. High hematocrit levels decreased the risk of HTPR. When preparing endovascular treatment for intracranial aneurysms, attention to patients with these clinical features is required to address the possibility of ischemic or bleeding complications.Abstract E-261 Table 1Risk factor analysis of high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) Variables Univariate Analysis Multivariate Analysis OR (95% CI) P OR (95% CI) P Age 1.02 (0.97-1.06) 0.53 Female o...

Association between population hypertension control and ischemic heart disease and stroke mortality in 36 countries of the Americas, 1990-2019: an ecological studyAssocia ção entre controle populacional da hipertensão e mortalidade por doença cardíaca isquêmica e acidente vascular cerebral em 36 países das Américas, 1990-2019: um estudo ecológico
CONCLUSION: There is a strong ecological negative association between IHD and stroke mortality and population hypertension control. Countries with the best performance in hypertension control showed better progress in reducing CVD mortality. Prediction models have implications for hypertension management in most populations in the Region of the Americas and other parts of the world.PMID:37497153 | PMC:PMC10367117 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2023.124
