Left Atrial Dilatation and Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction Are Associated With Cardioembolic Stroke
Conclusions: LA dilatation along with reduced EF is a reliable predictor of Afib and cardioembolic stroke. Further studies are warranted to determine the benefit of anticoagulation for secondary stroke prevention in such patient population.

Clinical Outcomes after Intravenous Fibrinolysis in Cryptogenic Strokes with or without Patent Foramen Ovale
Conclusions: Paradoxical strokes had better outcomes after IV fibrinolysis than other ischemic stroke subtypes, but this difference is attributable to younger age and milder stroke severity on presentation.

National registry‐based case–control study: comorbidity and stroke in young adults
ConclusionsIn addition to vascular risk factors, comorbidity (represented by ICD‐10 chapters) was associated with increased risk of stroke in young individuals. The risk of stroke was further increased with the number of diagnosed ICD‐10 chapters.

Risk profile, clinical presentation, and determinants of stroke subtypes among patients with stroke admitted to public referral hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia in 2021: A cross-sectional study
ConclusionAge, the level of sedentary physical activity, absence of a family history of chronic illness, hypertension, and past stroke were independent determinants of stroke subtype.

Predictive Risk Factors of In-Hospital Mortality Following Acute Stroke in the United States: Data from the Nationwide Inpatient Database, 2006-2010 (P02.015)
CONCLUSIONS: The rate of in-hospital mortality is relatively high following acute stroke (8.42%). We identified multiple risk factors of in-hospital mortality in acute stroke patients. The strongest risk factor is the type stroke (hemorrhagic). The present finding suggests that patients at increased risk of mortality can be identified and additional treatment for prevention might be warranted.Disclosure: Dr. Naderi has nothing to disclose. Systemic Inflammation Exacerbates Stroke in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Device (P4.235)
CONCLUSIONS:In LVAD patients, total prevention of cerebrovascular complications cannot be accomplished only by adjusting warfarin dosage to meet the therapeutic range. However, recognition of increased CRP and appropriate management of inflammation prior to the stroke onset may enable us to avoid its aggravation and secure patient’s opportunity for heart transplantation.Disclosure: Dr. Ohtomo has nothing to disclose. Multiple Silent Lacunes Are Associated with Recurrent Ischemic Stroke
Background: Silent lacunes are a common finding on brain imaging in ischemic stroke patients, but the prognostic significance of these lesions is uncertain. We aimed at investigating the association of silent lacunes and the risk of ischemic stroke recurrence, death, and cardiovascular events in a cohort of patients with incident ischemic stroke and no atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: We included 786 patients (mean age 59.5 (SD 14.0); 42.9% females) in a registry-based, observational cohort study on patients with first-ever ischemic stroke. On brain MRI we assessed the number of silent lacunes as none, single, or multipl...

Importance rating of risk factors of ischemic stroke in patients over 85 years old in the polish population.
CONCLUSION: The course of brain stroke in the Polish population is more severe in patients over 85 years old than in younger ones. The key risk factor in this group is atrial fibrillation. PMID: 29196059 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Determinants and clinical outcomes of stroke following revascularization among patients with reduced ejection fraction
ConclusionsFurther research appears warranted to minimize the complication of stroke and improve long-term outcomes among patients with reduced EF who underwent such high risk revascularization procedural.

Recurrent Stroke in the Warfarin versus Aspirin in Reduced Cardiac Ejection Fraction (WARCEF) Trial
In this study, we explore IIS rates in WARCEF patients with and without baseline stroke to look for risk factors for IIS and determine if a subgroup with an IIS rate high enough to give a clinically relevant stroke risk reduction can be identified. Methods: We compared potential stroke risk factors between patients with baseline stroke and those without using the exact conditional score test for Poisson variables. We looked for risk factors for IIS, by comparing IIS rates between different risk factors. For EF we tried cut-off points of 10, 15 and 20%. The cut-off point 15% was used as it was the highest EF that was associ...

Photoplythesmographic Signal to Screen Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Acute Stroke Patients: Feasibility of a Prospective Clinical Pathway (P1.181)
Conclusions: Screening hospitalized patients admitted for acute stroke with a positive questionnaire and inpatient plythesmography may identify a cohort of patients with high prevalence SDB. Our screening strategy hypothesizes that inpatient ODI can be a potentially cost-effective method for early recognition of SDB in acute stroke patients.Disclosure: Dr. Lim-Hing has nothing to disclose.
