Incidence and predictors of stroke during the index event in an ethnically diverse Takotsubo cardiomyopathy population.
Authors: Dias A, Franco E, Janzer S, Koshkelashvili N, Bhalla V, Rubio M, Amanullah S, Hebert K, Figueredo VM Abstract Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTS) is a peculiar clinical condition often affecting postmenopausal women after a stressful trigger. The underlying mechanisms have not been completely elucidated but several hypotheses have been advanced, with catecholamine cardiotoxicity, microvascular dysfunction and coronary artery spasm each suggested to play a role. The incidence of stroke after TTS appears to range from 0% to 7.7%, and interestingly TTS has been described as both a cause and a complication of strok...

Stroke-Specific Predictors of Major Bleeding in Anticoagulated Patients With Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation: A Nationwide Multicenter Registry-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: This study found that major bleeding risk was independently associated with stroke-specific factors in anticoagulated patients with stroke and AF. This has the clinical implication that baseline characteristics of patients with stroke and AF should be considered in secondary prevention, which would bring the net clinical benefit of balancing recurrent stroke prevention with minimal bleeding complications.PMID:37455504 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2022.0289

Is serum total bilirubin useful to differentiate cardioembolic stroke from other stroke subtypes?
CONCLUSIONS: Serum TB level was independently associated with cardioembolic stroke. The combination of clinical data and serum TB may be a feasible strategy to diagnose cardioembolic stroke in the acute phase. PMID: 25891436 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Acute Kidney Injury in Acute Stroke. A preliminary study in Hispanic population (P5.041)
Conclusions:The prevalence of AKI after acute stroke in our population is higher than currently reported.Arterial hypertension was observed as a main risk factor. Further analysis with a higher number of patients is needed to confirm this observation and determine its real impact in Hispanic stroke patients.Disclosure: Dr. Olguín-Ramírez has nothing to disclose. Stroke Severity and Outcomes in Patients With Newly Diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation
Conclusion: Stroke severity and in-hospital outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed AF did not differ from those in patients with known AF after adjustment for clinically relevant factors. The importance of detection of latent AF and subsequent anticoagulation in preventing severe stroke should be further emphasized.
