Treatment of diabetes mellitus has borne much fruit in the prevention of cardiovascular disease
ABSTRACTCardiovascular (CV) disease is the most alarming complication of diabetes mellitus (DM), and a strategy aiming at CV event prevention in DM has long been debated. Large landmark clinical trials have shown CV benefits of intensive glycemic control as a “legacy effect” in newly diagnosed type 2 DM (T2DM). In contrast, we have learned that excessive intervention aimed at strong glycemic control could cause unexpected CV death in patients who are resistant to treatments against hyperglycemia. It has also been shown that the comprehensive multifac torial intervention for CV risk factors that was advocated in the cur...

Risk of cardiovascular events associated with pathophysiological phenotypes of type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Simple phenotyping based on insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function predicts distinct future risks of cardiovascular events and death in patients with type 2 diabetes. These results suggest that precision medicine according to underlying type 2 pathophysiology potentially can reduce diabetes complications.PMID:35670619 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-22-0020

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Initiating Type  2 Diabetes Therapy with a Sodium–Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitor Versus Conventional Therapy in Japan
ConclusionOur results suggest that initiating T2DM treatment with SGLT2i, aimed at managing cardiovascular and renal complications from the early stages of diabetes, can improve the clinical outcome and reduce cost burden of T2DM.

Cardiovascular complications of diabetes
Expert Rev Endocrinol Metab. 2022 Jul 13:1-6. doi: 10.1080/17446651.2022.2099838. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the ninth leading cause of mortality globally, and the prevalence continues to rise. Among individuals with T2DM, over two-thirds of deaths are caused by the cardiovascular complications of diabetes. These complications include atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, nephropathy, stroke, thromboembolism, peripheral vascular disease. They have been long studied, and there are several theories as to the pathophysiology of how diabetes leads to these complications. ...

New insights into the comorbid conditions of Turner syndrome: results from a long-term monocentric cohort study
ConclusionsThis cohort study confirms the need for continuous, structured and multidisciplinary lifelong monitoring of TS, thus ensuring the early diagnosis of important comorbid conditions, including cancer, and their appropriate and timely treatment. In addition, these data highlight the need for the increased surveillance of specific types of cancer in TS, including thyroid carcinoma.

Major adverse cardiovascular and limb events in people with diabetes treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists vs SGLT2 inhibitors
Conclusions/interpretationIn people with diabetes, GLP1RA use was associated with significantly reduced risks of MALE compared with SGLT2i within the first 2 years after initiation, especially among people with diabetic neuropathy.Graphical abstract

Diurnal cortisol features with cardiovascular disease in hypertensive patients: a cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Flatter DCS and higher midnight cortisol levels are associated with an increased risk of CVD in patients with hypertension, especially in men. The detection of diurnal cortisol rhythm may help identify patients with hypertension at high risk of CVD.PMID:36070421 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-22-0412
