Projecting the incidence and costs of major cardiovascular and kidney complications of type 2 diabetes with widespread SGLT2i and GLP-1 RA use: a cost-effectiveness analysis
Conclusions/interpretationAt current prices, use of SGLT2is, but not GLP-1 RAs, would be cost-effective when considering only their cardiovascular and kidney disease benefits for people with type 2 diabetes.Graphical abstract

Epigenetic modifications in the motor cortex caused by exercise or pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACs) after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)
This study sought to examine the effect of epigenetic treatment using a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, sodium butyrate (NaB), and exercise on epigenetic markers in the bilateral motor cortex after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) to identify a more enriched neuronal condition for neurorehabilitation. Forty-one male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: sham (n=8), control (n=9), NaB, exercise (n=8), and NaB and exercise (n=8). Intraperitoneal administration of an HDAC inhibitor (300 mg/kg NaB) and treadmill exercise (11 m/min for 30 min) was conducted five days a week for approximately four weeks. ICH sp...

Electrolyte Imbalance and Neurologic Injury
CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Feb 15. doi: 10.2174/1871527322666230215144649. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeurologic injury continues to be a debilitating worldwide disease with high morbidity and mortality. The systemic sequelae of a neural insult often lead to prolonged hospital stays and challenging nutritional demands that contribute to poorer prognoses. Clinical management of a given condition should prioritize preserving the homeostatic parameters disrupted by inflammatory response cascades following the primary insult. This focused review examines the reciprocal relationship between electrolyte disturbance ...

Empagliflozin is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular events and all ‐cause mortality in routine care in East Asia: Results from the EMPRISE study
ConclusionsThe results suggest that both empagliflozin and SGLT2i compared with DPP-4i are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in routine clinical care in East Asia.

Non-calcified active atherosclerosis plaque detection with 18F-NaF and 18F-FDG PET/CT dynamic imaging
This study was aimed to assess the behavior of 18F-sodium fluoride (18F-NaF) and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) uptake in the aorta and iliac arteries as a function of plaque density on CT images. We report metabolically active artery plaques associated to inflammation in the absence of calcification. 18 elderly volunteers were recruited and imaged with computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) with 18F-NaF and 18F-FDG. A total of 1338 arterial segments were analyzed, 766 were non-calcified and 572 had calcifications. For both 18F-NaF and 18F-FDG, the mean SUV values were found statistically signifi...

Carotid dysfunction in senescent female mice is mediated by increased α < sub > 1A < /sub > -adrenoceptor activity and COX-derived vasoconstrictor prostanoids
In conclusion, senescence intensifies vasoconstriction mediated by a1A-adrenergic signaling in the carotid of female mice by mechanisms involving increased iCa+2 and release of cyclooxygenase-derived prostanoids.PMID:36705993 | DOI:10.1152/ajpheart.00495.2022
