Heterogeneity of Stroke in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Conclusion The contributions of SLE to stroke varied significantly according to the stroke subtype. Given the unfavorable prognosis, close stroke subtype-specific observation by rheumatologists and stroke specialists is recommended after stroke events.PMID:36244734 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.9228-21

Exploring racial performance disparities with the Modified Mini-Mental State Exam (3MS) in an acute brain injury rehabilitation setting.
Conclusions/Implications: These findings underscore a point of caution about interpreting the results of a cognitive screening measure like the 3MS without the context of an individual’s neurological history and race. Black individuals might be at risk for being inappropriately screened to be cognitively impaired, and some level of racial sensitivity should be taken at the item level for repetition and comprehension constructs. Associations Between Adherence to Evidence-Based, Stroke Quality Indicators and Outcomes of Acute Reperfusion Therapy
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated national marked and sustainable improvement in adherence to door-to-needle time, door-to-puncture time, and successful reperfusion from 2013 to 2017 in Japan in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Adhering to the key QIs substantially affected in-hospital outcomes, underlining the importance of monitoring the quality of care using evidence-based QIs and the nationwide Close The Gap-Stroke program.PMID:35971841 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.121.038483

Inpatient virtual shared medical appointments to improve health literacy, increase patient self-efficacy, and reduce provider burnout in acute cerebrovascular pathology patients and their caregivers: a pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of a vSMA program at a tertiary care center during a pandemic was feasible. Themes caregivers expressed on the postsession survey included better understanding of caring for a stroke patient and coping with the unpredictability of a patient's prognosis. The pandemic has precipitated shifts toward telehealth, but this study highlights the importance of avoiding marginalization of elderly and less technologically inclined populations.PMID:35921191 | DOI:10.3171/2022.4.FOCUS21764
